Today, my boyfriend told me he's prepared to commit to marriage, but only if I buy my own ring and tell everyone he surprised me with it. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Swoon
Today, my boyfriend said he wanted to marry me. Since he doesn't know my ring size, he asked for me to find a ring that I liked, and he would buy it and propose. The only problem is that he won't spend more than 200 dollars on it. Oh, the generosity. FML
Today, I discovered my fiancé has been telling everyone else we are just friends, yet last night he wanted me to go with him to pick up my engagement ring. I'm supposing the wedding will be a surprise to everyone. FML
Today, I was out with my boyfriend, when he started browsing wedding rings. He found a ring, proposed to me right there in front of a crowd, and then was promptly denied a payment plan. We left without a ring. FML
Picture perfect
Today, my boyfriend proposed with the perfect ring, restaurant, flowers, and champagne. He’s never been this well prepared for anything in his life, so he admitted that my mother planned the whole thing and forced him to propose, even though neither of us want to get married. She even bought the ring. FML
Today, my boyfriend proposed to me by tossing the ring at me and saying "Here, wear this." FML
Apron strings
Today, my fiancé told me he wants to buy an engagement ring for his mother, so that she doesn't feel left out. FML
So romantic
Today, my boyfriend proposed to me by handing me a ring and saying, "Let's get this dumb shit over and done with." FML
Today, I found out that my boyfriend asked me to marry him because he could get a tax cut from buying the ring. All of this happened in front of his mother. FML
Today, my boyfriend won a diamond engagement ring through a citywide competition. Instead of proposing to me, he's selling it. FML
Today, my boyfriend of 4 years proposed to me. I said yes and he gave me an engagement ring. He immediately went to call his mom to tell her the happy news. After the phone call, he asked if he could return the ring because his mom needed money. FML

I kind of think he's trying to break up with OP in a roundabout way. I just can't imagine anyone being that thick

Sadly there are woman that would do this. I can only imagine that they are desperate for marriage. it's possible that the guy can't afford a ring and doesn't want to be embarrassed. either way I sense a lot of red flags.

I'm with #38. While I generally advise women not to get hung up on the ring, in this case, I'd say it's pointing to a bigger problem. Especially as he expects to get credit for "surprising you with it."

OP's boyfriend is a ******* cheap-ass.

I would have just said to him, "Okay great! Now all you have to do is pay for the wedding, the honeymoon, the house, the car, and the divorce and we're all set."

#38 I agree. as a matter of fact I've seen this happen. an old friend of mine bought herself a $2000+ wedding ring and told everyone he bought it but I was with her when she charged it to her card. all but forced him to marry her. they're divorced now. 7 years of marriage- too long!

If you love someone enough, then yes. But men are expected to buy dinner and most everything. It burns a hole in your wallet.

#70 Whoever invited should pay, regardless of gender, unless both agree to pay for their own meal(s). That's more fair than always making the guy pay.

He's right. You should get yourself a ring. And then wear it on your right hand as a reward for kicking that bum to the curb.

what does he even think marriage is?
