Hm, might I suggest spending time doing stuff other than intercourse first? Undress and touch each other for a few nights, get to "know" and some confidence; build up to the actual sex.

Don't be mad or anything. He was probably very scared about this experience. 'I have severe anxiety- it isn't something you can always prevent. It's not a compliment.
