Today, I went to bed at noon after having driven 11 hours from Washington to Maine. I missed my flight due to a delayed plane, and was told there were no open flights the next 2 days. I'd been driving my $200 rental car for 1.5 hrs when the airport told me, over the phone, that there was in fact a flight available. FML

At first, I thought you meant Washington state, and I was actually beyond impressed that you got to Maine in only eleven hours. Then I realized, you probably meant Washington DC and I'm an idiot. Anyhow, that is unfortunate, but at least you made it there. Happy holidays, OP

Well it depends on when the flight departed. if it left in anything less than 1.5 hours, there would be no point since they'd miss it and have to turn back around anyways.

I'm pretty sure if I made a pun about this being a 'flight of fancy' or something, I would get spammed with downvotes, so I'll just say: That sucks. Hopefully you can work everything out.

I'm not sure it's feasible but I'd be trying super hard to see if I could get some sort of refund or compensation because that is some class A bullshit right there.

If you had only been driving for 1.5 hours when they called and then continued to drive the other 9.5 hours of the trip then YDI for not turning around...

You're not an idiot. Anytime it's not specified I automatically assume the state.

Sounds like it is a one way rental. Also, sometimes it costs more when you cross state lines.

You can cross state lines as long as you return it to the same location. But yes, going one way is expensive.

11 hour drive from Washington to Maine? How is that even possible? I live in Washington and my flight to Pennsylvania in 2 weeks, is about 6 hours.

It depends on where they live in Maine. I'm from Aroostook County, ME but live in Strafford County, NH and it takes me about 5 1/2 hours to drive home.

There's a magical place called Washington D.C. where the people in suits decide the future of the nation... I'm sure they mentioned it in school.
