(0)That would not hold in court. There is a legal definition to sexual, and it's very specific that a hug can't be considered sexual. They can make a law saying free hugs are considered sexual solicitation, but if you went to court for this and gave them the definition of sexual, the judge would be forced to clear you of all charges. Ha.

It would be easier if people had the common sense on if you're going to jay walk, do it in a situation where you're not going to be hit. Come on, it's ignorant to think that a series of events like that wouldn't happen, they can and they do. The laws there to discourage people from doing it, so stuff like that doesn't happen. Jay walking doesn't ALWAYS end in disaster, but neither does speeding and drink driving. More often than not, in all 3 cases, nothing happens. At all. But it's the risk of it happening, and the times that it does happen that makes the law worth having.

If you were just standing there in a public place (not like on a playground like other people pointed out), it shouldn't have been a problem. In fact, the only problem I can think of would be loitering and in that case they just ask people to leave first. Did a manager of a store (or wherever you were) tell you to leave and you ignored them first? That might work against you.

(0)Yeah, you can get arrested for holding a "Free hugs" sign. I have heard of it happening in some European countries so I suppose it can happen at other places. The problem with the "Free hugs" is pickpocketing. You are giving the person much easier access to your wallet or whatever he can steal. And since there can't be a cop or someone to observe what the freehugger is doing all the time it is easier to just not allow it at all.

If the person was a dainty attractive woman then knowing the people on here you'd probably be getting complaints about how it's not funny because people would be too perverted. Offering people free hugs really isn't very funny, and kind of a little flaky and silly. Some people will use it to get attention. Some people legitimately want to make others feel better. Doing it alone seems like an attention getter to me. Either that or the misguided idea of a teenager who thinks the problem with the world is a lack of compassion. They may be right, but free hugs will solve nothing. Use your time to make a real difference. Standing around offering free hugs will improve the situation about as much as standing around begging for change will improve the life of the beggar. Not a bad thing to do, but pretty pointless, given the alternatives.
