Man or woman?

Today, my friend called me freaking out because of an online pregnancy test. She was scared because she had no idea that she was pregnant, let alone having a fifteen pound baby. The website is a joke. She goes to an Ivy League school, and I couldn't even get into community college. FML

Or are you jus stupid

why would you pee on the monitor? it is not an input device. Either pee on a mouse, or in the cd tray!

#53 - On 11/23/2009 at 12:21pm by spoo

LOL!!!!

how is this an FML...I could understand if the friend was the one who posted this but not if you are
this doesnt even really have much to do with your life
you didnt get accepted to the school...sure
but she's the one not smart enough to use common sense to know that the internet wont tell you if your pregnant x.x
therefore FHL not yours

#73 - On 11/23/2009 at 3:51pm by inconvienentgurl

It's an FML because the OP, who at least by this anecdote isn't a fucking moron, can't even get into a community college; ie she's applied to MULTIPLE places, even sinking to community colleges which nearly accept just about anyone, and her friend, who at least by this anecdote IS a fucking moron, got into an Ivy-League college; ie she got into a highly prestigious school that usually only takes the absolute best and brightest.
The FML is the cruel, cruel unfairness of it all.

#100 - On 11/24/2009 at 2:53am by DameGreyWulf

Yeah, after writing that comment I did think, "Maybe peeing on the keyboard would have been more appropriate" but I had already made the joke and didn't think it was a big enough of a deal to make the effort to amend it.

#104 - On 11/24/2009 at 4:27am by teiso

Common sense is completely different to intelligence.
Somebody could be incredibly smart, yet very naive at the same time.
It doesn't mean they didn't deserve their place in the College :/

#5 - On 11/23/2009 at 6:22am by Icethefrostycat

Common sense should be a prerequisite though.

#9 - On 11/23/2009 at 6:42am by PandaPandaPandaX

Haha I'm gunna say she is probably just a dumb bitch.

#81 - On 11/23/2009 at 7:25pm by hornetchik

I agree with Icethefrostycat; my brother is super super smart, and could probably go anywhere in life. However, he has no common sense whatsoever. That's my job, and of course, I'm not as smart as he.

#82 - On 11/23/2009 at 7:31pm by possumisawesome

him, not he
so yeah
your not as smart as "he", obviously

#84 - On 11/23/2009 at 8:43pm by 123sploosh

Umm..
Try not to correct people when you're wrong.
"I'm not as smart as he" is correct.
Implied predicate.
"I'm not as smart as he (is)."

#87 - On 11/23/2009 at 9:57pm by dudeitsdanny

Common sense detects jokes, yes, but basic intelligence should detect that you can't take a pregnancy test online.
The chick's a bloomin' idiot any way you slice it.

#101 - On 11/24/2009 at 2:55am by DameGreyWulf

I took the test.
It said I'm 10 weeks pregnant =)
I don't know who the baby's daddy is..
Nor did I know I had the right body parts

#108 - On 11/26/2009 at 1:07am by dudeitsdanny

that's so sad fyl.

#6 - On 11/23/2009 at 6:24am by luck_your_fife

Intelligence and common sense are not the same thing, not even close. Sure a person can be smart....book smart, but has nothing to do how that person will be in real life. Some of the smartest people on paper are often the stupidest idiots ever (ever (ever))

Sadly, that's how the world works. A diploma is more important than having common sense and the know how to ACTUALLY live....pisses me the fuck off, don't worry

#7 - On 11/23/2009 at 6:33am by thatoneguyinca

That's totally true... and yet I think someone who has enough book smarts, even without a tiny iota of common sense, would know that you cannot take an online pregnancy test, let alone have that test predict the weight of your baby.

#12 - On 11/23/2009 at 7:17am by nonynony

I'll go the next step and say that often, intelligence and knowledge is not the same thing, either. This person could've studied hard so they know all the answers to tests, but not necessarily be good at making logical connections on their own.

#18 - On 11/23/2009 at 7:38am by teiso

And on the other hand, there are plenty of bitter idiots who never made it past high school, and now sit around saying, "Oh yeah, he might of went to Yale, but I have STREET SMARTS so I'm smarter than all those fancy college kids." Its funny to see people try to pretend they are some secret genius. No, you are not Matt Damon, this is not Good Will Hunting, and not going to college does not equal street smarts.

#29 - On 11/23/2009 at 8:45am by expen_dable

then again getting into an ivy league school does not necessarily indicate intelligence, the roommate could just be rich or had connections with the right people. Although if this was true, or at least if op new this, then this wouldn't really be an fml.

#80 - On 11/23/2009 at 7:18pm by eman4life23

well expen, I am not bitter cuz I didn't go to college / graduate high school. I am 20 and pursuing my Bachelors in Business Administration, then to pursue my Masters at a top business school. I don't see the bitterness....

Even though you may have a good degree, it doesn't mean you have to bash on people that didn't graduate high school - it's their own choice to flip burgers and work at mcdonalds their whole life....or work 9-5 on minimum wage and drive all hours of the day in gridlock :)

#88 - On 11/23/2009 at 10:03pm by thatoneguyinca

Yeah, with a 7-9% acceptance rates in places like Princeton and Harvard I don't necessarily believe you can call up your uncle and ask him to accidentally accept you?

#112 - On 11/26/2009 at 12:26pm by budgie_jumping

I love how you're trying to make yourself feel better for not getting into a place like that! Yeah, I could have made it to Princeton, just a lot of work that I could have done but didn't feel like it! Guess what, I got in Princeton and I've been working my ass off for the last 10 years... so the difference between "could have" and "did" is huge... requires both potential and perseverance, don't know which one you lack...

#113 - On 11/26/2009 at 12:35pm by budgie_jumping

A radar like screen comes up, and spins around.
Then it says "You're not pregnant, but take the test again to make sure!"
You take it again
"You're pregnant!"
It's a boy, blablabla, Then a celebrity is the father.
It's dumb as shit.

#8 - On 11/23/2009 at 6:34am by Ejvind

How is this an F YOUR life? She was the one who should have posted this, not you. It doesn't affect you at all. Unless you're really embarassed to have such a stupid friend. Hehe I probably would be too.

#11 - On 11/23/2009 at 7:13am by iheartjustinsane

I think it is because she made it into a big school, while being so stupid; and the OP just got into Community College.

#14 - On 11/23/2009 at 7:23am by CheshireHalli

I don't think this is a FYL. This is more of a "How stupid are your friends?"

#15 - On 11/23/2009 at 7:26am by SenGaeriel

This is just sad. OP's friend sounds like a product of abstinence-only sex education. How else would she not know how a pregnancy test works? Let's all hope she doesn't accidentally get pregnant before she finishes college.

#16 - On 11/23/2009 at 7:33am by msbetsy

Haaaahahahahahahahahahahaha! :D I'm laughing so hard... :)

#17 - On 11/23/2009 at 7:36am by wordgirl

lol, this was on another website earlier, failblog.org, there is a joke about an online pregnancy test that was just put up yesterday, this could be real or it could just be someone's bad attempt at an FML

#19 - On 11/23/2009 at 7:39am by cparks0

you do realize there's a difference between smart and book smart right?

#43 - On 11/23/2009 at 10:49am by sadistmonkey

sadistmonkey, as much as you want to believe that all those ivy league kids are "booksmart" drones who have no common sense whatsoever, the truth is that almost all of them are very smart. I love how all the high school dropouts here are trying to feel better about themselves by saying that Ivy League students are all secretly morons who have no "street smarts." Sure, that guy at Yale just made an advance in biomolecular research, but you have "street smarts" because you sit around trying to post witty comments on websites like these. LOL whatever makes you losers feel better about yourselves.

#59 - On 11/23/2009 at 1:15pm by expen_dable

i had a boyfriend who thought like that. well he told me that i might be good in school but i would never be as smart as him because he knew how to take the bus. yes, he was serious. i'm not going to an ivy league school or anything. i'm going to an art school, but still. haha. 3 of my good friends are in ivy league schools and they are like the smartest people i've ever met. anyone can have no common sense, it's not just book smart people.

#77 - On 11/23/2009 at 5:43pm by chicken_lover

I go to Stanford University. I have met tons of people there who I say "only" have "book smarts." Not having street smarts means that sometimes they haven't learned how to support themselves, or sometimes they're somewhat naive. Only being book smart means that they don't internalize what they learn, that they can't do a research dissertation on their own, because they know what they are told, and don't know how to think forward and stand on their own two feet at such an advanced stage in their education. Neither of them implies that SOMEONE IS A FUCKING MORON. There are lots of people here who aren't very well rounded. But there aren't many of them that can't function on a basic level and who I would be worried about leaving alone in a room with a working electrical outlet.

#106 - On 11/25/2009 at 7:32pm by floating

Floating, I love how you can tell the comment of an intelligent person from the comment of, let say not too intelligent person of the sort "I hate you all Ivy League students, I'm smarter than you, you're just dorky" LOL

#114 - On 11/26/2009 at 12:39pm by budgie_jumping

Well she got in extra-curriculars.. jk I'm not that stupid ;o

#21 - On 11/23/2009 at 7:46am by Yooh_Plus_Meh

EVERYONE can get into a community college

#23 - On 11/23/2009 at 7:58am by athame1983

My first thought! There are no academic standards to get into community college. Sounds like the OP was just trying to exaggerate, and is too young to have applied to college and know this common fact.

I say this because she was obviously trying to use the admittance into college as a comparison of their assumed intelligence, and it fails as a comparison since their academic performance (barring the OP dropping out and never getting a GED) would not bar the OP from community college.

#32 - On 11/23/2009 at 9:25am by Sappheyes

Your friend fell for something that you didn't, which means you're better than her and your failures in life mean nothing now.

#25 - On 11/23/2009 at 8:06am by FunkyVerb

I think my 8 year old brother would know that's completely fake.

#26 - On 11/23/2009 at 8:29am by CrunkCupcake97

i'd hope so since he's a boy

#30 - On 11/23/2009 at 9:07am by sugarguru

YDI for being too dumb to get into a better school. She just doesn't have common sense.

#27 - On 11/23/2009 at 8:29am by FritoLovesYou

There is no correlation between common sense and intelligence. If you don't know that, then YDI.

#28 - On 11/23/2009 at 8:38am by mjnelson

Why couldn't you get into community college? The only prerequisite they have is that you have a high school diploma or GED, and you have a way to pay, whether through credit cards, loans, or grants. Even retarded people get into community college. The fact that you're capable of posting on the internet means that you're smart enough to get into community college... you either don't have your GED or you have no way to pay, in which case YDI.

#31 - On 11/23/2009 at 9:10am by birds

you actually dont need to even graduate high school to get into community college. there are no requirements except the small fees they need you to pay

#65 - On 11/23/2009 at 2:23pm by l0st4lif3

I assume she's blonde? Seriously people who believe all these tests need to get some mental help.. It's one thing filling them all up cause you're bored, but it's something else to actually believe the results..

It is rather worrying that someone would believe it though.

#36 - On 11/23/2009 at 9:54am by cakeisfun

The common theme here of intelligence vs. common sense really misses the point.

There are three factors that are not necessarily correlated that explain this.

1) Intelligence
2) The ability to work hard over a long period of time
3) Gullibility

Your standardized test scores indicate your intelligence (to a certain extent) and your grades indicate your ability to make a sustained effort. To get into a highly selective school, you have to excel at both, or be from a "legacy" family. Neither of these qualities have any bearing on one's gullibility. I've graduated from and/or attended some of the most selective schools in the country, and let me tell you: April Fools' Day pranks work there very well! ;)

You should throw your smart, but gullible friend a baby shower and give her boxes of Depends adult diapers, and let her know that a baby who can fit into them will soon be exiting her vagina.

#37 - On 11/23/2009 at 10:02am by perdix

I would say that there's a difference between being gullible and being idiotic enough to believe that an online test can tell you if you're pregnant.

Still, I go to a decent school (not Ivy League, but still fairly competitive) and among all the "smart" people are some of the most unintelligent people I have ever met. The general impression I got, both when applying to college and when talking to said unintelligent people, is that in many cases a sappy essay, a full list of extracurriculars and/or a strong record of community service will often get you much further than actual intelligence, grades or test scores these days. If the OP's friend interviewed...interviewers seem to prefer students who are bubbly and uber-sociable, which many (though certainly not all) stereotypically-intelligent people are not.

#49 - On 11/23/2009 at 11:24am by talaina

Booksmarts seems to be unrelated to common sense. Common sense trumps book smarts.

#38 - On 11/23/2009 at 10:07am by _whatever_77

Maybe in your world, but in the real world, actually being smart trumps common sense any day.

#99 - On 11/24/2009 at 2:36am by star_ver

1) the OP may not have been trying to get into community college (like sheridan and those schools im assuming based on the fact that she is from ontario) for just anything, it may have been a very competative, difficult program, and yeah, everyone looks down on college (I know I do sometimes), but some of those courses are more difficult to get into than university courses, so that may be why she didn't get in, so not necessarily fake.
2) just because you get into a really good university doesn't mean that you are at all smart. It means your book smart (intelligent), but not street smart. I go to UofT and can speak from person experience that there are quite a few people who go there, who get very high marks and are in very difficult programs, that do not have one ounce of common sense and are so guillable that it is unbelivable!
So all in all, not necessarily fake

#39 - On 11/23/2009 at 10:08am by damnrosi

Also, getting into an ivy league school has a lot to do with your connections. If her parents went there, she could get in with a lot worse grades than an outsider.

that's what happens when you're super book smart, you start to lack common sense.

#41 - On 11/23/2009 at 10:24am by wambamtysam

Someday such test may become possible, but the technology isn't there yet. I mean, come on, you have physical contact with a computer mouse, what else is required to extract all the necessary information...Your friend was merely confused because in her school, she is surrounded by the computer programmers who can create that kind of technology. >:)

#42 - On 11/23/2009 at 10:47am by spellfire

I bet she goes to Penn.

#44 - On 11/23/2009 at 10:53am by SoAuthentic

Seriously doubt you could have gotten into any University, even the small crappy ones, seeing as you clearly have no comprehension what-so-ever. If you did, you would have noticed that I was defending colleges you bloody moron, now why don't you get back to hair dying 101 genius.
And I never said that UofT is Ivy league, but anyone with half a brain knows that it is a top school in Canada, and that it has a reputation for turning out the best and brightest.
Idiots like you are why people think that college students are stupid.

#85 - On 11/23/2009 at 9:47pm by damnrosi

#51 - On 11/23/2009 at 12:02pm by Polionixon

There is, unfortunately, no coralarion between book-smarts and common sense.

#52 - On 11/23/2009 at 12:09pm by Grangoire

This is FAKE! I go to community college there is no entry requirements for them.

#54 - On 11/23/2009 at 1:02pm by dreadkid08

Some community colleges do have requirements.

#56 - On 11/23/2009 at 1:06pm by AmeOwl

I don't care if you don't have common sense, even "book smarts" should have clued her in to that one.

#55 - On 11/23/2009 at 1:04pm by AmeOwl

This is barely a FML. The two really have nothing to make them comparable in the same sentence.

Lets break it down a little;
1) Your friend is a moron who thought that somehow online can tell her if she's pregnant. (Not a FYL)
2) Your friend is intelligent enough to get into an ivy league school. (Not a FYL)
3) You are too dumb to even get into community college, which is pathetically low intelligence considering they take people from every intelligence range. (A FYL, but has nothing to do with your friend)

Basically, you should have worded this like this; "Today, I realized that I'm too dumb to get into community college while my friend who thought she was pregnant due to an online test got into an ivy league school. FML for being so stupid."

#60 - On 11/23/2009 at 1:41pm by TheTruth1428

That's exactly what the OP said, just rephrased, dicktard.

#64 - On 11/23/2009 at 2:14pm by vesperl

Did teh cybersexx get her pregnant?

#61 - On 11/23/2009 at 1:52pm by mercyFML

She should have used her Firewall.

#63 - On 11/23/2009 at 2:09pm by ELLIE37713

The OP wouldn't be able to get into a CC if she didn't have a diploma or GED. And some freshman at top colleges are very naive about sex and pregnancy, especially in the fall semester. She may have missed a period for whatever reason and put on her freshman fifteen.

It's not necessarily fake.

#62 - On 11/23/2009 at 1:57pm by I_am_stupid_also

This is clearly an example of someone who got into an Ivy League college because her parents had either money or connections. Maybe both.

#66 - On 11/23/2009 at 2:26pm by Elendil

anyone can go to community college.

#67 - On 11/23/2009 at 2:29pm by fragmite

Yeah, Ontario's education system is more involved with the All-Mighty Dollar. I know someone who got into University despite dropping out of high school. All he had to do was write an essay, I guess to prove he could write..?

#83 - On 11/23/2009 at 8:20pm by edwadokun

it just goes to show you that this archaic system of education needs to be dumped. you spend years getting fucked in the ass for every cent you own, and every cent you will earn for the next 20 years, learning things that you probably already know, and other things that you will never need to know, to, in the end, purchase a piece of paper that says you've spent thousands of dollars and years of your life gaining knowledge that you could have just as easily learned by visiting your local public library.

#89 - On 11/23/2009 at 10:06pm by captain_soggy

Ouch... we're having not more than a high school degree, aren't we buddy? I go to Princeton and I can tell you the material you're taught is cutting edge, based on current research developed by the faculty and NOT yet even published! If that's what you think about higher education you've clearly never seen one.

#111 - On 11/26/2009 at 12:20pm by budgie_jumping

There must be a credible reason that you can't even get into community college, whether it's through some fault of yours or something that someone else forced upon you. On the other hand, the observation that your friend's gullible and naive doesn't mean that she's stupid.
