rub the sting with sand it will get the bristles from the stinger out
hahahhahahaha the irony.....
loser

nothing like a golden shower for a golden day at the beach =D
but seriously where do you live because the ocean isnt a great place to wash off any wound...infection much?!?
#8 - On 05/31/2009 at 6:59pm by toodlesmccoy
Haha. I got stung by a jellyfish a few years ago.. no piss necessary. A few painkillers, one ointment cream, and two hours laying down with my leg elevated sent the pain away.
Sucks to be you.
It's called wet sand. Wet sand is good for jellyfish stings. Not pee.
YDI for going into the water in the first place and then going back into the water after being stung.
Um, WHY THE FUCK WOULD YOU GO TO THE BEACH AND NOT GO IN THE WATER? =]
And also YDI for making this up, that pee thing doesn't work, you'd have mentioned this if it wasn't made up.
Peeing on a jellyfish sting doesn't do anything, so nice one.
Did you make your friend pee on you again? Did you stare at his/her genitals while they peed? Did a lot of pee get on an area that wasn't stung?
It's this sort of information that leaves me unable to choose between FML/YDI.
You should never pee on a jelly fish sting
#14 - On 05/31/2009 at 7:03pm by cxal
Signs from god.
They're uniquely fun.
Wow, you must have really bad karma FYL indeed!
I wish I had a friend who would pee on me...
jk jk
That was unfortunate
YDI for thinking that actually works. It hurts/irritates because of the toxins in your blood stream, piss, vinegar or anything else is NOT going to work.
FYL! The same thing happened to me when I was on a trip in South Carolina. The lifeguard put some spray on my first sting and told me to go into the water to rub wet sand on it and wash it off. When I went back in I got stung by either two jellyfish swimming together or one that stung me twice as it went by. On top of that, I nearly passed out from the benadryl I took. Good times.
#11: not much of a beachgoer are you? Some ppl actually have friends and a life and do stuff like going to the beach. Not everyone is afraid of the water
Also, those of you saying it doesn't do anything aren't completely right. For jellyfish stings, you usually wanna put some sort of acid on it. The best thing is vinegar but most ppl don't have that on them and piss is a possible solution. The only thing is sometimes that's not acidic enough.
I don't understand how anyone can honestly say YDI
YDI for making your friend piss over your jellyfish sting. and it's more like an f your friends life
#4 your fucking stupid. Peeing on jellyfish stings does work and it is scientifically proven dumbass
"anything else is NOT going to work."
The purpose of using vinegar is to keep any more stinging cells from discharging into your skin, not to kill the pain. Urine, however, is useless, which is why I voted both FML and YDI, OP.
dont swim where there are jellyfish
To the people who are saying that peeing won't help the pain, It's not supposed to. It kills the remaining nematocysts, and stops the victim from getting more venom in their body.
OP: That really sucks.
you got owned by a jellyfish. twice.
#28 - On 05/31/2009 at 7:25pm by angel03260
23: don't believe everything you read
it doesn't work
#23: http://firstaid.about.com/od/bitesstings/f/07_JellyfishPee.htm
In fact, look it up pretty much anywhere. It's an old wives tale.
#30 - On 05/31/2009 at 7:28pm by reki
Actually even the site you referenced said that it does work at least half the time, based on the content of fresh water and ammonia in the urine. You really should read your sources before posting them.
Urine doesn't do jack to a sting, YDI for relying on television for medical advice.
That was stupid, I'm sure a life guard would have been around to give you vinigar to treat the sting.
Peeing on jellyfish stings is what retard tourists do. You deserve it.
haha you got owned by a jellyfish xD fyl, and fy friends life for having to pee on you.
You know peeing on a jellyfish sting is a myth, right? It does absolutely nothing.
Source:
http://firstaid.about.com/od/bitesstings/f/07_JellyfishPee.htm
Pee isn't acidic enough to help stop the release of nematocysts. In some cases pee can actually cause MORE to be released.
Your best bet is to use vinegar.
#30: I believe you mean, WISE tale.
YDI.
Peeing on a jellyfish is just a myth...It doesn't do anything. You should have gone to the lifeguard and told him/her.
you guys are dumb. Pee actually does help a jellyfish wound. look it up.
What kind of jellyfish have you guys been stung by? They don't hurt THAT much. Sure it stings but it's not like it's excruciating enough to have to take pain killers.
#37--no, they meant WIVES, like they said. Try reading as a hobby.
YDI
LOL
#45 - On 05/31/2009 at 7:44pm by danineteen
#11 isn't "going into the water in the first place" the whole point of going to a beach?
FYL for getting stung once.
YDI for going back in and getting stung twice.
"you guys are dumb. Pee actually does help a jellyfish wound. look it up."
Urine and ammonia can actually aggravated the nematocysts, not neutralize them. Perhaps you should stop believing everything you read on the Internet and stick with reliable sources instead.
Taken from Friends?... but funnier.
First off, I just want to say FYL for getting stung and YDI for not knowing what to do.
For jellyfish stings you never want to soak your wound in water or salt water (it just irritates the wound and releases more toxins). It's not been proven that pee works and can actually make this a whole lot worse. Your best bet for a box jellyfish sting is vinegar or alcohol. Now if it's the portuguese man of war do NOT put alcohol or vinegar or any acid on the sting. Instead use meat tenderizer. Sounds weird, I know, but it's proven to work.
So there you go, some helpful tips on what to do if you get stung. And remember, don't be an idiot and go back into the same water you just got stung in; it's likely you'll get stung again.
jellyfish suck but you could have gotten stung by a portugese man 'o war, you might not live out of that experience unless you spot it in time. Or probably more likely return with extremely painful injuries. Wildlife tends to hate humans, i laugh at the people who get caught in the middle
Unless you live in Australia, you would have been fine ignoring the stings, continue swimming, and then dabbing some meat tenderizer on it when you got home.
And if you do live in Australia, you'd probably be dead right now.
#52 - On 05/31/2009 at 7:57pm by officerpat
agree with #4 on this one, i got stung by a jellyfish on the foot one summer at camp, and was told to pee on it, which i refused to do. i instead put it in the water to cool off the burning sensation i had. when i got back to camp one of the nurses looked at it and said she would've done the same. i later googled it and found that peeing on your foot is pretty much pointless, which is even more so when you can't wash it off... sucks though that you got stung and didn't know any better :( that shit does hurt though >:(
Current research suggests that vinegar may precipitate nematocyst firing from certain stings, while for others will only succeed in preventing firing of undischarged nematocysts. The best thing is to use hot water.

#11, how did the op D E S E R V E it for getting in the water "in the first place"? is it fucking forbidden or what?
37, it's either. That sucks. FYL for getting peed on and FYL for getting stung twice.
actually #23, it is NOT scientifically proven. Not even a little bit.
"First, don't believe the rumors. Peeing on a stung bit of skin won't do much to relieve suffering, and you'll suffer some odd stares, too, doctors say.
Urine has not been scientifically proven to help in jellyfish stings, said Dr. Paul Auerbach, an emergency physician at Stanford University Hospital and an expert on jellyfish stings. "
http://abcnews.go.com/Health/story?id=2283933&page=1
#52,
you do realize that there are actual painful jelly fish outside of Australia?
Sure, they might not kill, but still, they hurt.
ya...pee doesn't do a thing for jellyfish stings..so YDI!!
@37: it's both. way to look like an ass. :)
I can honestly say that I fricken laughed out loud at this one. xD
You got pissed on by a friend, and got stung TWICE in the same day.
FYL.
But also YDI for not noticing the jellyfish. But then again, some of them are a pain in the ass to see in water...
UGH THE CONFLICT.
i dont care how much pain im in i will not let someone pee on me.
does that even work?
im sorry about your sting though=/
ive never been stung but im sure it hurts.
i did not read every single post but WHITE Vinegar helps..
Ok, for this link you guys are citing, you're misinterpreting what it says.
"some victims have reported pain relief, but urine does not ALWAYS have enough acid to neutralize the venom. Use vinegar". So this site you're giving as proof says that urine can work, but it's not usually effective. At ties though, that could be your best bet.
For those of you saying it makes it worse, absolutely not
its equal i suppose, FYL for getting stung, and YDI for going in a second time! shame on you :P
you fucked this up yourself, you have to be a huge dumbass to rush back into the water.
if you got hit by a truck and were pretty much alright, would you run back into the road for another go?
fail.
well I'm glad you're. still alive because. ucan die from 1 jellyfish sting let alone 2 you're. lucky
"well I'm glad you're. still alive because. ucan die from 1 jellyfish sting let alone 2 you're. lucky"
1. It depends on the type of jellyfish.
2. Learn how to use a goddamn punctuation mark.
Its your own fault, why would you go into the water if you know there are jellyfish in there?
damn... was this dude to dude? or dude to girl pissing? either way, thats rough.
FYL? fuck your poor friends life, they had to pee on you!
at the people who said dont go swimming where there are jellyfish, there are jellyfish at every beach that you would want to swim at. Puttiing piss on a jellyfish sting is stupid because what the hell is water and excretement gonna do for your cut? Also all the dumbasses who said going into the water is dumb afterward because of infection, salt water is good for preventing infections because it helps sterilize the cut.
wait... i don't get it.... why did your friend have to pee on you?
well if this was dude to girl or vice versa not so bad if you feel an attraction to each other
but still sucks you should have not gone back again if you knew the jellies were there anyways
Dude, that sucks... I live near to the beach and go there often and I've never been stung by a jellyfish. FYL.
FYL for the first sting, but YDI for the 2nd...what kind of thought process makes you conclude "hmm, I just got stung by a jellyfish, and it might possibly still be in the area, BACK IN THE WATER!!" And next time use vinegar
haha i am sorry but that is pretty funny =) FYL indeed
You people are like, all full of half the truth.
Fresh water for jellyfish stings is bad. Triggers more stings from the stinging cells.
Salt water for it is good. Thinking that it cleans the wound and prevents infection.
Vinegar is a good solution for killing stingers that haven't stung you, but can worsen those of jellyfish cousins.
Ammonia can be useful, for the same reasons as vinegar.
Urine... is mostly water, with some ammonia. If you happen to have a lot of ammonia in your urine that day, it could help. Otherwise, you might just make it worse. I've had two jellyfish stings that had urine applied to them. First one was a "miracle cure". Instant pain-b-gone. Second one, just made it itch. (so it got worse)
The real thing to do is to use sand or a towel to wipe off stingers that haven't injected you with their venom, and take a painkiller. The Ammonia/Urine/Vinegar tricks are only chemical ways of using sand or a towel (and don't risk you touching the stingers with your bare hand, spreading the stings). They don't remove the pain.

hahaha did you get that off of Friends??
sounds made up but it made me lol.
That's awful! It's bad enough to get stung once, it's worse to get stung twice, and it's even worse on your first trip to a beach! You did not deserve that, that's just awful. Poor thing.
#49....Thank you for the Friends reference!
OP: I'm not sure how much peeing on the sting actually works or not, but on Friends when Monica got stung by a jellyfish, she was peed on. :P
You're an idiot for believing the jellyfish sting-piss remedy. Also for going back in the water that contained said jelly fish.
#87 - On 05/31/2009 at 10:18pm by Cunes
Haha fool the peeing does not work at all.
wtf. I don't understand why everyone is all "Oh, YDI stupid. Pee doesn't work."
Not everyone knows that. In fact I bet quite a few people don't. Most of us have better things to do than Google cures for jellyfish stings.
And "Not FYL, but FY friend's life." ...?! WHAT? All they had to do was squat. Unless they have the conviences a dude does. It's not even a big deal.
Sheesh.
People these days.
FYL, man. I feel for you.
HAHAHAHA.
#90 - On 05/31/2009 at 10:34pm by tianshi
that's a myth anyway. peeing on someone doesn't help the sting. they say to use vinegar or something like that, is what i heard.
i would have thought you learned your lesson the first time....
lol #44, you can always tell who read as a child and who didn't. Also see: "would of".
That's from FRIENDS! If you're gonna rip something off, making from something less popular.
Okay, honestly? FYL regardless of the fact you didn't know what to do, because that just sucks. Quite frankly, I think some people will click YDI no matter what even when it's obvious that the OP probably didn't deserve it. Getting stung TWICE and pissed on, only to find out that it doesn't even work? Yeah, FYL. =/ At least you'll know better for next time?
You are not supposed to be peed on dumbshit that infects it
FYL for being stung the first time. And FY friend for pissing on you. That doesn't work. Your friend totally just piddled on you for nothing.
However, YDI or the second time. (1) Why the HELL would you go back into the ocean after just being stung by a jellyfish? Chances are there are MORE in there, as they travel in schools. (2) To wash something off, you don't go into the ocean, where there is sand, salt, dirt, and ADDITIONAL defecation and urination of random creatures within its waters. You're begging for an infection.
While the first sting is something you can't help, everything that followed was entirely avoidable if some common sense would have been used.
I would pee on you.
And I'd video tape it.
Hot.
people, is it really necessary to repost the same thing everyone else is saying?
this is what it looks like:
pee doesn't work.
pee doesn't work.
pee doesn't work.
pee doesn't work.
pee works dumbass
pee doesn't work.
pee doesn't work.
pee works dumbass.
its kind of annoying.
LEARN FROM YOUR MISTAKES!
So did your friend piss on you again?
#104 - On 05/31/2009 at 11:27pm by tk89
Vinegar and wet sand. Any lifeguard on duty would have told you that on a public beach.
fake as fuck
#106 - On 05/31/2009 at 11:47pm by bigbuttsowhat
ouch
and why were u swimming in jellyfish infested water?
have you ever watched the news of the people who get killed by those things every year in like Hawaii or whatever?
vodka actually works like pee for jelly fish stings. vodka neutralizes the sting and doesn't smell like pee. :)
MEAT TENDERIZER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
best remedy for jelly fish stings, and i heard they even work for bee stings!
#11: Because everyone knows, if you go in the water a loose seal will bite off your hand!
;)
@109: But you'll still be all right. ;)
And lol at the OP. That really sucks.
Well, we need a scientific study. Let's go back to the beach with the OP, smack them with a jellyfish, then take turns peeing on them.
We can also smack them with jellyfish, then pour vinegar, ammonia, saline solution and lighter fluid on them alternately while keeping notes on the results. Big fun! Prizes!
Why are so many people going on about how this is fake and taken from Friends? Like it's so unrealistic and there's absolutely no way this could happen in real life. I believe it, I was stung twice in a row too!
jellyfish don't swim alone
YDI
Pee is not good for a jellyfish sting, it could cause a serious infection plus that is just gross. Simply hot water helps just to clean it.
#116 - On 06/01/2009 at 1:19am by Flove09
YDI for having R. Kelly as a friend.
#117 - On 06/01/2009 at 1:48am by nushadow
ahahhahahahahhahahahahhahahaha ithink i just peed my pants a little.
Woman vs. Jellyfish
Jellyfish 2 Woman 0
Jellyfish WON.
You know, that happened on FRIENDS. I don't believe you
Some of you are so unfairly vicious.
The pee thing doesn't work, but not everyone knows this because it is a widespread myth perpetuated further by a stupid TV show. Going back into the water is the best thing you can do for pain relief. It's not like the jellyfish is lurking and seeking out a victim. That's just bad luck. I would certainly consider this an FML because 1. Getting stung by a jellyfish sucks, 2. The peeing was unecessary and probably awkward, and 3. The second sting was freakish.
FFS people, just being so in your face. He deserves it for what? For not fucking being perfect? It's a widespread myth and people sometimes tend to stick to them.
105 had to say it. There's always at least one.
So I guess peeing on it doesn't work? Lol who cares, honestly
i don't know if pee works, but i know absolutly not on a jellyfish sting. the only reason people think it works is because they say that amonia helps, but thats on man'o'war sting's not jellyfish.
The beach can be a bitch.
And apparently, jellyfish can smell fear. or pee.
LMAO. The jellyfish hate you.
Ive been stung by a jellyfish i got out of the water put vinager on it and decided it took to long so i went back in the water.
Cheers on finding another person to pee on you.
This made me laugh so bad.
1. Get friend to pee on you
2. ???
3. Profit!
#131 - On 06/01/2009 at 10:12am by plethora
I can't believe you had someone pee on you..
I completely agree, #123. Way to be. =]
Good lord, everyone here needs to learn to check their facts before they go talking about things they obviously know nothing about. All you have to do is check Wikipedia to learn that urine makes jellyfish stings worse, and vinegar helps them get better.
Oh yeah because wikipedia is so awesome that most colleges don't even allow it as a source without like four other sources backing it up.
Ewww! That's discusting.. Why did u put your feet back in the water after they've been peed on?????
Even worse is the fact that peeing on jellyfish stings doesn't really help at all; in fact, it can make it worse because exposing the stinging cells stuck in you to a liquid with a different concentration of dissolved substances than seawater can trigger them to release more venom.
That is a myth about the urine and the Jelly Fish sting. All you need is water.
Sorry about the stings, but why would you go back into the water? I hope it was the same jellyfish that stung you both times because his friends thought it would be funny to keep stinging you. At least you didn't go back a third time, right. You didn't go back again...did you?
woooww jelly fish dunt like you do they??
gosh you people having a big discussion -_- calm the hell down!
I have been stung by multiple jellyfish before, while it hurts...but it's not that big of a deal. Almost like being stung by a bee, the pain goes away on it's own after a few minutes.
#133: Epic rhymage, bro.
#142 - On 06/01/2009 at 4:25pm by tk89
@ 11, you're a jackass. it's usually safe to go into the water. he didn't deserve to get stung just for going into the fucking water, so shut up and go home because you clearly don't have any friends with that sort of attitude.
@ OP: The beach does not like you :P
sorry for your pain
aww, that sucks
and ur friends r gross- get new ones
pee doesnt do anything for stings. fail. next time try vinegar.
you know you can put vinegar or salt water on it. pee is usless
To the person who said there should have been a lifeguard there...not all beaches have lifeguards. I've never been to a beach WITH a lifeguard, actually.
To everyone who is pretending to be the ultimate authority on whether or not pee helps, you can find many websites that support each side. In the end, it depends on how hydrated the person peeing is, and a few oher things...
To the person who took pain meds and propped his/her foot up for like 2 hours for a jellyfish sting....um, over reaction, much? I got stung by 11 jellyfish in 4 days once. It's called the Nuese River. Unless you got stung by a really dangerous jellyfish, it's not really that big of a deal.
Sounds like a sucky first trip to the beach though.
i live in california, go to the beach almost every other day, and have never been stung by anything. so sucks for you. and btw, peeing on it does nothing, put alcohol on it.
hahaha
i'm sorry but that's hilarious
sounds kinky. I want to hang out with you and your friends sometime...
hahaha wow that was just unlucky
He had to pee...ON you? What the hell????
ya...i dont get that...why'd he have to pee on u...is he retarded?
Im sorry, but damnnnnn talk about bad luck!
i thought mine was bad!
HAHAHAHHAHAHA #37 is retarded
Your friend had to pee on you?
Wait, what?
that's really funny and I have never heard of that pee thing.
i have heard of the pee thing, it works. haha. I don't mind being stung. LOL!
Seriously, folks have you heard of a shower? It provides fresh water. Look it up & maybe one day it will help you!!
#161 - On 06/02/2009 at 3:39am by rachelbrianna25
It was unfortunate the first time, but the second time you just deserved to get peed on. Learn next time
Vinegar does work. And so does vodka. I'm not kidding, it does.
As Wiki says, applying vinegar to common jellyfish stings deactivates the nematocysts (which is a type of venomous cell, apparently).
Also, as xkcd says, you are a scientist. I don't remember the link, but I remember the comic: Upon pulling a lever, lightning strikes the guy. A normal person's thoughts? "I'd better not do that again..."
A scientist's thoughts? "I wonder if that happens every time? *pull*"
Thats y you use the little shower thingys they have to was urself off...
Victim of a Jellyfish sting. Yes.
Used as a Bathroom. Yes.
FYL. YES.
Wow that reeeeeeally sux but why did ur friends pee on you?? Thats disgusting
You have to pee on your self it is only stierrl to your own body
Lmao. I've been stung b4. Strangly, burying my foot in wet sand worked.
From experience I can say I'd rather be stung twice by a jelly than once by a stingray! :(
why did your friend have to pee on you?
"Contrary to popular belief, urinating on the area of a jellyfish sting to remove the nematocyst(s) makes the condition worse rather than better."
yeah... i'm calling a bs on this one.
you should have added the detail that your friend was now out of pee for the second sting
and maybe had to ask a stranger to pee on you.
Urine is sterile and you went to clean it off in beach water? Sounds like your burning down the village in order to save it.
Awww, that sucks. Sorry !
Pee is for a sea urchin retard.
God said "No ocean for you"
Pictures or it never happened!
#184 - On 06/07/2009 at 6:36am by Yyz
Going back into jellyfish waters = YDI, totally and completely. I mean really.
You shouldn't have let your friend pee i've been stung by jelly fish multiple times and i was never pissed on
peeing on it doesn't help it all...it actually intensifies the pain. -.-
piss only works on sting ray wounds
not from jelly fish
think you need vinegar for jelly fish
actually, it was the same jellyfish. he wanted to finish you off =P
that honestly never works. the peeing part.
That is soooo funny im sorry but peeing on it works on like see urchins and like portages manawars not jellyfish >.<
