Lucky, huh?

Today, my co-worker told me how "lucky" I am that I "chose" to be a lesbian, because I don't have to deal with "guy drama". I spent two years of my adolescence sleeping at a bus stop and begging strangers for money after I got kicked out of home. FML

For some people, their knowledge of the LGBT community doesn't extend past pornos and shitty movies. But I'm glad you've bettered your life, OP.

Les be honest, people who think that one's sexuality is a choice are assholes.

I hope you don't mean what I think you mean.

If you don't understand the fact her parents didn't accept her for who she is then kicked her out, well.

"Going straight"? Are you serious? I don't think they're wrong to expect people to be tolerant. Everyone deserves respect, regardless of their personal choices.

#36, you're exactly right. She should have lied and suppressed her sexuality to appease her parents. I am being sarcastic.

Nobody said her coworker was 'wrong', it's just that she was painfully ignorant and made some horribly insensitive comments. You can't defend her words, but she probably didn't intend it to be so hurtful.

Everybody Deserves respect regardless of their personal choices? "Oh that drunk driver that just killed a whole family deserves respect because he made a personal choice." How about her parents deserve respect after kicking her out because that was their personal choice.. Actions dictate what people deserve. If I hire someone to mow my yard and they don't show up so I hire somebody else, when that person is done mowing I don't pay both nor do I respect both because one didn't do what I personally felt that he should.. I respect and pay the one who made the personal choices that cause them to deserve pay... That is a large factor in the mindset of entitlement.. Which is absurd...

#36 You don't just "[go] straight to please her parents." It's not a life decision it's something you are born with.

By personal choices, I was referring to their private life - who they choose to sleep with, whether or not they want kids, etc. Perhaps I should have used a different word than 'choice' but I was referring to more than sexuality.

As someone who has had their family torn apart by a drunk driver, I couldn't agree more with 67. Respect is something your earn, not given.

#36 is right. No one gives a shit if you're gay. You are attracted to who ever you are attracted to. But you can't make people except it. Hate when people try to force someone to be ok with it.

Also people who think same sex couples have no drama and are 100% happy with each other 100% of the same

Dude... Your stupid makes my head hurt. Not only are you ignorant, you threw in a whole 'nother political hot topic. That is next level shit.

Which hard choice are you referring to? Choosing to be a lesbian? Choosing for her parents to be intolerant? Choosing to get kicked out of her home? I choose to think you're a clueless twit. But that's just my choice.

Ladies and gentlemen, our CEO hath spoken. Issue resolved, next idiot.

I don't know any legitimately gay people who have or will ever "go back". such as myself. I've always been gay and always will be. my 52 year old uncle hasn't magically become straight with age.

The ones who "choose" it, then go back to being straight do it for attention.

People can be so ignorant sometimes, but keep up the good work, OP! :)

Did you let your coworker know how ignorant they are? Noone can choose how they feel towards another person it just happens.. you are brave for coming out to your family and for loving who you were born to love. Happy you have a job now!
