Today, I went downstairs a little after midnight to grab a snack, and in the dark hallway, I clearly saw a small child walk into the kitchen. I was freaked out, but I followed him in. There was nobody in the room. I'm now too scared to sleep, and am seriously considering moving house. FML

Today, I came home late from work. As I got out of my car, I noticed a child-shaped silhouette in my bedroom window. I almost shat myself, since I live alone. I searched the whole house, sobbing in fear, only to find no trace of whatever or whoever I'd seen. FML
Today, I was heading to the bathroom when I clearly saw a little boy walking into my bedroom. My wife and I live alone, and I screamed at the top of my lungs, thinking he was a ghost. Turns out my wife collected him from school for a friend, and I just didn't hear them arrive. FML
Today, I was handing candy to a little boy who was trick or treating by himself. He was small enough to grab the candy and run past me into my house. I've been searching my house for two hours and still can't find him. I'm afraid to go to sleep. FML
Today, in the early hours of the morning, I woke up in sleep paralysis, hallucinating the sight of children hanging from the ceiling. Now I'm scared to sleep. FML
Today, I woke up to shuffling noises coming from downstairs. Suspecting the worst, I jumped out of bed, and whispered over my shoulder for my girlfriend to stay quiet. Only after going downstairs and taking a swing in the dark with my bat did I figure out it was just my girlfriend foraging for snacks. FML
Today, I took a late-night shower. When I got out afterwards, the bathroom door was ajar, and I could have sworn I heard the faint patter of footsteps in the kitchen. "It's probably the cat," I told myself. Then I went upstairs and saw my cat asleep on my bed. FML
Today, after my house almost got broken into last week, when I heard some noises in the kitchen I went to investigate. I saw a huge rat run across my floor, and nearly peed myself thinking it was an intruder. FML
Today, I woke up to noises in my living room. I was scared, but I loaded my gun and snuck downstairs. I burst into the living room, yelled for the motherfucker robbing me to put his hands up, and flicked on the light. My cat stared back at me like I was a moron then calmly walked out. FML
Today, I spent an hour in my car terrified to go inside because I thought my house was being burgled. I saw rapid shadows in the light of my lounge. Eventually I plucked up the courage to creep inside with a rock to find it wasn't a robber. It was my cats, fighting in front of a toppled lamp. FML

This has happened to me several times except I've seen my mom twice when she was somewhere else. Creepiest thing I've ever witnessed. I saw her in our garage so I put on my shoes and went out there and she wasn't anymore. She had been sleeping in her bed.

That's for damn sure. I had a shadow dog in my bedroom before. He'd walk up and smell me, climb in bed, and lay down beside me. The freakiest shit was when he'd get on the bed I'd feel the weight of him, and when I reached out to pet him I felt small traces of hair, while my hand went through him. I was spooked at first, but he was a nice shadow dog. Embrace it, OP, it's actually fun to play along sometimes. Just remember, they can't hurt you

Actually they can harm you, I once lived in a house where if you lied down (it only happened in my bedroom) it would feel as if a person got on top of you and would start to choke you, need less to say my family and I moved out.

You're actually supposed to stay away from shadow people. They are believed to be demonic and can actually hurt you. Most of the time ghosts are harmless. Shadow people are a completely different story.

218, that explains the feeling of being choked, but not the bruises. Something similar happened to me once. I used to wake up with bruises in the shape of hands on my arms and legs. I even woke up one day with X's scratched into my knuckles. Turns out I was doing it to myself in my sleep because of all the stress from school.
