Today, my furnace broke down, almost a month after its twenty year warranty expired. It would have been replaced for free. Now I'm going to have to take out a loan to afford the $4,000 replacement. FML

... Yes it's sucks, but why so you think the company puts a warranty on things? Cause that about how long they last before the object will break from use. You need to look ahead and saves up if the warranty expires in 10 years that's how long you have to save up for a new one. It's like an expiration date. If it last longer your lucky.

#24, and OP: While planning ahead to buy a replacement is always a good idea, not everything is built to last only as long as its warranty. When something dies so immediately after its warranty expires, it's worth contacting the company and finding out whether they'd still honor it or would at least offer a repair/replacement discount. At the worst, they'll say no, but many companies will go the extra step -- especially when you're otherwise about to switch brand loyalties to buy a new one from anyone other than them, and will tell all and sundry about your frustrating experience with that company's product.

37, I'm too lazy to even attempt to read that, I just finished eating so I'm just going to thumb you up...

1, please do us all a favor and do not comment if you're going to say such evident things.

it always works the way, things break right after the warranty is up.

OP should have just broke the furnace his/herself two months BEFORE the warranty expired!!

@10 two months is suspicious, try 5 years.

#2, that's the best way from the manufacturer's point of view. Not only do they lose money if their product rated for 20 years lasts fifty, but sometimes they get sued if a 30-year-old unit ***** up. It's hard to convince a jury they weren't supposed to be using such an outdated product.

Yea, it can be a down right bitch at times.

If it was truly Murphy's Law, the furnace would not only break, but explode, burning OPs house. And OPs house insurance would have expired a month earlier as well on the same day.

While OP runs out of the house in a panic they get attacked by the neighbors thought to be friendly dog then realizes the car is in the shop their cell phone just died and it starts raining on the one day when no one seems to be home. Of course all in the same day

But maybe that rain would put out the fire, things might not be looking so down then.

Life? Always a bitchslap away.....

Evil Genius furnace company. Exactly a month after the warranty stops it breaks.

I bet you got real heated after that happened.

If he builds himself a Red Matter Furnace, he can use a glitch to get infinite resources and therefore infinite energy! But he'll need a lot of dark matter first... (Equivalent Exchange mod of MineCraft)

I wish life was as easy as Minecraft.

Cutting down trees with your bare hands? Falling 10 meters and healing within minutes? I can't think of anything more ideal.

Exploding creepers when you least expect it? No thanks :( Granted, the pet industry would boom.

Minecraft in real life would be boss

Tell them it broke two months ago but your phone service was out. Probably won't work, but it's worth a try for $4,000!

i dont see anyone entertaining that plan in the least.

This sounds like every phone I've ever had. Minus the 20 year warranty.
