Today, my girlfriend broke up with me because I thought she wasn't being serious when she said her mum wanted me to pay to stay the night at her house for the first time. FML

Today, my girlfriend told me she wanted get to know my mom, so they went off and had a chat. After an hour, I noticed my girlfriend was gone and my mom was waiting for me. Apparently I've been dumped through my mother. FML
Today, I went to my girlfriend's house to break up with her. It was a hard decision and both of us became quite emotionally overwhelmed at the time. We began to hug as a final goodbye, then her mum burst in the room and yelled, "HE FINALLY PROPOSED!" FML
Today, I met my girlfriend's parents. Her father looked me up and down, said, “No” then went back to his TV. My girlfriend immediately broke up with me and threw me out. I even had to get a really expensive taxi home, because we’d driven in her car and I had no idea what part of the city I was in. FML
Today, I finally invited my girlfriend over to meet my oddball parents. The first words out of my dad's mouth were, "So, you're the silly girl who agreed to date my dickhead son." It went downhill from there. FML
Today, a woman turned up uninvited at my house, ready for our first date. After some embarrassed investigating, it turns out my mother signed me up to Tinder and arranged a date, all without telling me, because she refuses to believe I prefer solitude over dating. FML
Today, my girlfriend's mom pulled me aside and started telling me about how her daughter was extremely depressed and suicidal before she met me, and how happy her family is because of me. I was planning on breaking up with her within the next week. FML
Today, my boyfriend broke up with me. How? He invited my mother to his house for coffee with his parents, and told her. She then had to come home and tell me I’d been dumped. FML
Today, I brought my girlfriend home for the first time. I was really excited to introduce her to my parents, until we found my mother waving around a wooden sword, and my father trying to shove my sister into the dryer. FML

Am I really the only one who thinks a genuine possibility might be that the mother is the one against the relationship, and did this behind the daughter's back? Some parents aren't above this sort of behaviour, really. Hard to say which is worse but I do hope that it's the mother being a bitch and trying to sabotage the relationship rather than the girlfriend being that immature and selfish... OP, if your gf never actually spoke to you or confirmed the breakup, maybe try to contact at her at least once just in case, if only to get some closure. Best of luck xx

#44 That is true. However, if the girlfriend really did tell her mother that and her mother complied, then OP could end up getting in more trouble. Who knows what lengths she might go to avoid telling OP that she broke up with him directly? She might be silly enough to call the cops.

Some parents think they're protecting their children when they "help" with things like this. I remember back when I started out in high school I broke up with a girl I only dated for a month or so and soon enough I get a call from her mom lecturing me on how great her daughter was and what an idiot I was for breaking it off. Sometimes it's understandable, others it's completely uncalled for and overbearing in my opinion.

It reminds me of a Beatles song, I can't remember which but basically the girl is in the house and the mother denies the guy at the door and pretends her daughter is not home. That's awful, OP. I'm sorry. :( If she was not able to properly break up with you, she is not even worth your time because she couldn't bring herself to do it.
