Today, I was cutting a bagel, only to slice the back of my hand with the knife. As I grabbed paper towels to clean up the blood, I noticed that the bagel was pre-sliced. FML

wow, sorry but that's really a blond moment. and yeah, if you somehow managed to slice the BACK of your hand, maybe you shouldn't be using a knife...
I can see how you cut the back on your hand. you were holding the bagel horizontally, and you were cutting towards the hand holding the bagel, and i guess the bagel was really hard so as you were pressing hard, the knife slid on top of the bagel all the way to your other hand where it sliced the top. I dunno if my description is correct, or if all the others commenting can imagine it well, but I just felt like I needed to explain, cuz others just have no imagination.
maybe he was using his left hand to hold it down, who the hell cuts anything with their palms facing up? i sure as hell don't

i sliced my thumb open once when i was cutting an english muffin,
i was so embarrassed i hid it from my dad because he always lectured me on how sharp the knife was..

And maybe it's just the bad bagels I get but even if they are pre sliced, I always have to cut them a bit anyways because pulling them apart just leads to broken off pieces.
why do people overanalyze this stuff? like #6..who cares how that person was cutting the bagel?

Yeah I noticed that.. they try to work out the scene exactly how it happened, but that's why there's a 300 character maximum. No one (except for those few) really needs the details..

people making fun of him for cutting the back of his hand, i worked at a bagel place for a long time and many people cut the back of their hands while slicing bagels (not me but still)
but for the OP - you need to know when a bagel is pre-sliced. hopefully no blood on the bagel... and thanks for the laugh

I've cut myself on almost any knife imaginable, so I feel your klutzy pain. I've also not noticed a bagel was pre-sliced before. Sometimes, even when it's pre-sliced, it isn't sliced all the way through and that's the side you're looking at.

For all of the people calling her stupid, i can definitely see how she didn't realize they were pre-sliced, the softer ones are really hard to tell that they're already cut, and you really have to pull them apart, they aren't just like sitting ontop of each other loosely. And sometimes they aren't even cut all the way through.
So I can see how this would happen, haha

#53 - bagel injuries are quite common. A fair amount of people pass through ERs with cuts due to bagel slicing.

I was cutting a small bagel (pre-sliced) but frozen, and the bagel broke off and the (brand new) knife cut right into my left thumb straight down to the bone - I got 8 stitches, and still don't have full feeling in my thumb. This was in june last year.
