Can you blame him? His parents probably taught him well not to talk to strangers, and here you get all up in his face. If I was him, I would've freaked out and kicked you, too. It's a shame that we have to warn our kids about things like this, but that's just how it is
Kicking someone because they come up to you when you're crying is way too harsh. Op wasn't out of line and the kid shouldn't have kicked him until the situation became dangerous. Like, if op touched the boy or tried to move him, and the boy doesn't want to go, then would be a reasonable time to kick.
Your sympathy will get you left behind.
It's good that there are still well-meaning people out there who really do mean well... But at the same time we tell our kids to not talk to strangers for a reason.
