People love their significant others and are afraid of losing them and being alone, so out of fear they choose the next best/easiest target, which is the “mistress” to take out their anger. Unfortunately most people are not self-aware enough to realize their displaced feelings so they are just reactionary and ignorant about it.

I never understand why people attack the other person rather than their own cheating partner (not that either is a good option). Usually, the other person is like in this case, oblivious they are with a cheat.
