Today, I learned that I'm the only person in my family that our new cat likes. She sleeps on my bed and always sits in my lap and despises everyone else. I'm allergic to cats. FML

close the door to you room and keep the cat out! That's what I have to do too :) or take meds

The cat just wants to relax and you're the only person in the house that it trusts not to actively engage it and try to pet or play with it.

I would hate to be allergic to cats but for me it would be worse to be allergic to dogs because I would suffer and still own them. Even though you're allergic it's nice that you're still nice to the cat OP! At least I hope you're nice to the cat even if it is plotting your death haha

Cats do that rather a lot. In fact, every time I mention that cats gravitate towards me (they do!), people ask if I'm allergic--which, oddly, I'm not.

Actually, cats hate it when people chase them saying in a big, booming voice, "Here, kitty kitty!"...which is what most people do. People with allergies usually show some interest in the cat but make no approach....which is exactly the kind of behavior that intrigues a cat.
