Today, I hired a cleaner to clean my apartment so when my in-laws visited tonight, they wouldn't think I was lazy. I got home from work, the cleaner hadn't shown at all, and my in-laws had arrived early. My mother-in-law is now mopping the floors. FML

Today, my boyfriend and I cleaned his parents' whole house while they were out, just to be nice. When they came home, they assumed we only did it because we'd made some huge mess that we needed to hide. I'm now banned from their house. FML

Today, my parents came home after being out of town for the weekend. I stayed home, did homework and completely cleaned the house, thinking I could earn some brownie points with them. They saw how clean the house was and accused me of covering up a party. FML

Today, my girlfriend works for a company that cleans VRBOs, so while she went to see family for a week, I asked her coworkers to come clean while she was gone, even the owner of the company showed up, They deep-cleaned house, but when she got home I got yelled at for a dirty coffee mug on my desk. The coffee was still warm. FML

you hired a cleaner because you were so lazy, you let filth and mung build up to unacceptable levels. if you clean on a regular basis, it does not take that long to do. now your in-laws don't think you are a lazy slob, they know it for fact.

It could be that OP is a good housekeeper, but the MIL is picky so the OP hired a cleaning lady to get it up to snuff. It could also be that OP's MIL arrived while OP was at work and insisted on cleaning. We don't know this, and everyone is jumping on OP on the negative aspect of the FML.
