Today, I had to jump into my car while it was still moving. Apparently, just because you put it in park and turn it off, doesn't mean it won't take off towards a ditch without warning. FML

are you sure you put it in park?

If it was in park and off yet still moved, doesn't that mean the brakes don't work? How did you stop it, or did you just go along for the ride?

No not necessarily. P in an automatic transmission simply engages what is called a parking pawl, which locks up the output shaft on the transmission. Without the use of the emergency brake, there's no guarantee that the car won't move on an incline.

the emergency brake had been engineered for a reason. next time I suggest you use it.

How about using the emergency break...YDI
