Today, I found out that my anxiety disorder has escalated to where I now scratch and pick at my face while asleep. Now I get to sleep with oven mitts taped to my hands. FML

It's a DISORDER. If this person's anxiety has gotten so bad that they've started doing that in their sleep, their life certainly is ******. You have no idea how horrible it is. I have severe anxiety that can sometimes prevent me from doing daily things. And don't call me a ******* emo because you don't have any idea about how it feels! This person isn't being a drama queen at all. You just need to shut up and go curl back up in your closet where you belong.

You remind me of someone I used to go out with, she... ground? her teeth whenever she went to sleep.

yeah, my bf grinds his teeth in his sleep. it's kinda annoying but i'm used to it now. besides the reason of teeth not being aligned properly, all other causes are due to stress and anxiety.

I also made an account to comment on this. All I have to say is I feel your pain, ive had OCD since I was 7 years old, and when I was young, although not as severe as picking in my sleep, it controlled most of my childhood life, and no one understood what it was or how to help me. Im a compulsive picker too, and when I was 9 I would pick my feet (eww i know) until it was too painful to walk. Even as i wrapped them in bandages. And anyone with this disorder knows that they simply cant stop no matter the pain. I dont think they had medication for it when I was a kid but you should talk with a psychiatrist/therapist who can properly assess a method of treatment. Because when the picking gets to a subconscious level, there is usually a deep underlying cause that might be unknown to you. Best of luck,

biggest lol of the day...oven mitts...hehe. I mean...sorry to hear that.

Dear OP, I have the same anxiety disorder (Dermatilliomania) and have had the same problem. Some tips: Do everything you can to lower your stress level. Drink lots of water! (this helps your skin look nice so you don't fret about it in your sleep) Take some ZQuil or whatever it's called for a few nights. It will knock you out cold and maybe a few nights away from it will help. Don't worry! With work and time it gets better!

I sincerely hope you are seeking treatment, op.
