Today, after months of job hunting, I got a call back for a position. I was outside at the time and had no pen or paper available to write the address down. I told the guy to call me back in 5 minutes and he agreed. It's been 3 hours and still no call. FML

Big mistake asking the employer to serve as your personal secretary. You should have offered to return the call to him and not asked him to make yet another call to you, this time on your timeframe. Don't expect to get the job.

YDI for not being resourceful enough to say "give me just one minute, let me grab a pen and some paper" and BOOM!!! problem solved! now how hard was that? ...if i were an employer, i would not hire you b/c you couldn't figure out the solution to an absurdly easy problem

Yeah but if she was outside she would have to go inside to get a piece of paper so why not just type it on the computer unless they turn off their computer after every use.

Why didn't you just scavenge up something to write on? Or, if you were out in the middle of nowhere for some reason, apologizing and saying you weren't able to write the address and needed to call back would be better. Come on, now.

They're offering you a job. You do not ask them to call you back. You say, "I'm sorry, I'm outside right now, let me just run inside and grab my planner" and keep them on the phone with you, hopefully asking some useful questions about the job. If you were in the middle of the park or something, you talk with them anyway and then say, "I'm out of the house right now, but I want to make sure I got all the details right. May I call back to confirm them as soon as I get home?" Then you get your butt home and do it.

um.... your phone? if it's anything like mine you can do that
