The strangeness of strangers

By zomg - This FML is from back in 2012 but it's good stuff - United States - Port Saint Lucie

Today, while at work as a cashier, I tried to be sweet and ID an elderly man buying a bottle of wine. He responded by calling me a "blind-ass bitch" and calling my manager for "harassing" him. FML

Some people just need to learn to take compliments once in a while...

I think you'd get a better result if you did that to an old lady

at least they can't firer you for it being the law and all

Don't ID an elderly man even as a joke. He obviously doesn't need to waste the time pulling one out.

What a lot of people don't realize is that a lot of stores and restaurants that sell alcohol have a policy to ID everybody, regardless of their age. There are actually cops and other people who go undercover and try to buy drinks at places without showing their IDs. And that's how you lose your license to sell. So keep up the good work OP, you did the right thing.

I voted FYL for the reason that some places, they can be REAL sticklers about carding everyone, to cover their butts if any enforcement comes

I don't think it's completely out of kindness. Not saying it wasn't, but some stores require ID'ing of their customers, regardless of age (21 or 90). Maybe you guys didn't take that into account? Sorry OP :(

FYL. I'm going to assume most of the people saying YDI and that cashiers shouldn't ask for elderly customer's IDs don't have much, if any, experience working in retail. Cashiers are encouraged to be friendly with customers, and there are quite a few customers who look old enough and will jokingly say things like "What, don't I get ID'd?" especially if they're in line behind a younger customer who did get asked. It's not OP's fault that one old man decided he'd rather be crotchety instead of shrugging it off.

There's nothing sweet about ID-ing the elderly I think... Grey hair is their ID
