Repetition

Today, after extensive tests, I found out I'm neurologically incapable of forming habits. If I stop doing something for any reason, I have to find a new way, or never do it again. This includes work, hobbies, study, and even basic hygiene. FML

I have the same problem. I found out that some habits can be formed, though. All that matters is our motivation. I never took care of my teeth, and well into my adult life I was unable to form the habit of brushing every day. A few years ago, I had my entire mouth fixed. After just one month, some of it had to be redone because I didn't brush them. That hit me hard, and gave me the motivation needed to start on that habit. I am sure that we can all do it, if only we get the right motivation.

I absolutely understand this. I can’t just habitually do things, i have to actively force myself to do them every time. There are maybe 2 or 3 things I had done every day of my life until they got interrupted by stress at home and once I stopped for a day or two I couldn’t remember to/make myself do it anymore (like brushing my teeth).

That's really interesting, what's this condition called?
