Peace and quiet

Today, I swear to Christ, I prefer being at work these days, because when I’m at home if it’s not the kids screaming then it’s my wife moaning about nothing, or the dogs whining and barking, or the neighbour coming round to moan about all the noise. Sometimes wish I was bleeding deaf. FML

Why do you have to swear to Christ? It's easy to believe you'd prefer to be in a quiet place than a chaotic one. Swearing is for things where we would believe the opposite is the case. The question is why can't you discipline your children and dogs better, so they're not so annoying?

sounds like you're all having a hard time! is your wife getting the breaks she needs to just go out and do whatever? are you getting the breaks you need? and the kids? well sometimes they just scream and it drives everyone nuts, sometimes getting them out of the house for a walk can help change the mood or at least distract them! mom of 4 kids here and I know just family life in general can be hard! it won't always be this annoying!

So discipline your kids and train your dogs!

Careful with the word discipline, it can get real harmful real fast.

Be careful what you wish for - You might just get your wish and be left all alone. I understand that there are distractions and that they can be disruptive. I myself like to concentrate on the task at hand and limit my distractions when I am working on a task or problem. I also understand that the COVID-19 pandemic has caused a lot more togetherness at home and we all need our space sometimes. But the people and pets in our lives also need our attention from time to time and usually on their schedule not ours. There ought to be a way to find a workable compromise - Talk about it honestly and without confrontation with your wife. That is your starting point. If you have too many pets to take care of you may be able to find accommodations. Even children can come to understand that there are certain “work times” and as long as there is also time from them too then that would be capable of accommodation. But remember that the time and attention our loved ones require is paid back by their time and attention to you - Not always now, sometimes later. (Listen to the Harry Chapin song “Cats in the Cradle” sometime.)

I'll bet your family is also happier when you're at work, with that attitude.

I'm here to tell you that you need to be more involved at home now with a capital n.
