Destiny

Today, I was writing a research paper for my psych class and read that people who have attempted suicide are seven times more likely to die from heart disease at a young age. I had a sudden chest pain, and I’ve had four suicide attempts between age 9 and 19. FML
I agree, your life sucks 709
You deserved it 241

Same thing different taste

If we read the same articles (and I hope you read more than one), it sounds like the current medical consensus here is that first off, heart disease can actually cause depression and suicidal ideation rather than the other way around, schewing the results; second, that depression is linked to high stress and to poor lifestyle choices (i.e. smoking and binge drinking) that may cause heart disease later in life, not that there is an immediate and immutable link between depression in and of itself and heart disease. Depending on how and why depression manifested itself in you, you may not actually be at risk for heart disease. Even if you personally did indulge in those, it’s possible that you may just end up lucky on that account. Sudden chest pain can also be caused by stress and may not be immediately linked to heart disease in your specific case. I’m saying this as gently as possible, but I think that whatever help you received before, if any, was not enough to be helpful to you right now. It sounds like you’ve read something that’s worrying to you and rather than managing to consider it rationally, you’re fixating on it, psyching yourself out and starting to spiral. Is going to the doctor to get a heart check-up an option for you, so that you’ll either have the assurance that there is nothing currently wrong with you or the knowledge to manage it if there is?

My experience is that often physical ailments and depression go together. A bad arthritis flare up could spin me into depression. And depression can seem to worsen physical ailments… I strongly urge you to see a psychologist about the depression which is what prompts suicidal thoughts and actions. Heart problems are bad enough, depression can feel worse.

If you're not long for this world, why are you wasting money and little remaining time in college? Drop out and blow your tuition money on parties and travel.

OP is depressed. She doesn't want to party or travel. She wants to see a psychologist ASAP and eat unsalted pasta with a lot of vegetables, for her heart.
