Today, I offered my seat to an elderly lady on the subway. She quietly refused. Minutes later on a sharp turn, she almost fell down on two people. As I was clearly the youngest in the disability seating section, everyone on the train turned and glared at me. FML

A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, I got on a train and spotted a free seat. I rushed over, sat down and sighed with relief, only to realize people were looking at me. That’s when I saw the “Reserved for the elderly or disabled” sign…and the man with a cane standing in front of me. I immediately offered him the seat, but he just shook his head and said, “You’re gonna need it after this shaming.” FML
Today, I got on the subway with a broken leg. A kind woman stood up and offered me her seat. Before I could sit down, a guy shoved past me and took it for himself. The woman and I pointed out my cast and crutches, and asked him to give up the seat. He responded by flipping us off. FML
Today, a woman on the train demanded I give up my seat for her, claiming it was for people with disabilities. Tired from a long day at work, and seeing she had nothing wrong with her, I asked what her disability was. Apparently, obesity is one. FML
Today, I was on the train next to an elderly woman. When I told her it was my stop, she turned her knees towards the aisle, and I, thinking that she was letting me go by, began to edge past. She screamed, "DON'T PUSH ME!" and the whole train turned to look. I was thus the asshole pushing the old lady. FML
Today, I gave up my seat on the subway for an elderly man. He thanked me by grabbing my ass. FML
Today, I offered an elderly man my seat on the train. He thanked me by winking and offering me a seat on his lap. FML
Today, while taking the subway home, a woman offered me her seat. I smiled and declined. She said she insisted because of my "pregnancy." I was too ashamed to say I wasn't pregnant, so I just took the seat. FML
Today, I was on the bus, when an elderly woman stepped in. She looked too weak to stand. She looked at me with sad puppy eyes, expecting me to give up my seat for her. I felt sorry and got up. As soon as she sat down, she said, "Ha! Sucker!" FML
Today, I rushed onto the metro to get to work. I found there were no seats left and asked a perfectly healthy guy to let me sit in the handicap spot. He refused to because "being tired" was a handicap characteristic. I have one leg. FML
Today, on my way to school, I was shouted at by an obnoxious businessman for sitting down on the train when a "full fare paying passenger" was standing. I would normally have given him the seat straight away, except I have a broken leg. I showed him my leg and crutches. He still made me get up. FML

I don't think you deserved this. I mean, she didn't want to sit down and you did offer up your seat. The other people around could have offered up their seat too.

Lol good one #30 that is a good idea. That is defiantly fyl that was not your fault. Yea you should have stood up but at least you offered that the important part.

Well if you dont actually get up and offer it then no, she'd probly feel too awkward to say yes but its a lot easier to say yes if your already standing up. Still, fyl.

exact same thing happened to me, but another lady actually had a huge argument with me, and the lady could have given up her own seat, but no, cuz im the teenager on the bus its my fault

If you read the stickers on the trains and buses, it doesn't say only disabled/elderly/pregnant people can sit there, just that you have to vacate the seat for them. So, yeah FYL. Not your fault.

I have a type of arthritis and I'm in my younger twenties, but I sure don't hold it against people for sitting in those seats, even though sometimes when I'm in pain I wish there was a seat, I just grin and bear it. I think to expect people to never sit in those seats unless someone is disabled is a waste of space. Some people might like the idea of seats just for them and their problems, but personally I don't want to be singled out like that unless absolutely necessary. I imagine the elderly women didn't want to be treated any different than anyone else either and/or didn't want to be a bother. In any case it's too bad everyone glared at you just because you're young... At least you tried to offer your seat, which sounds like more than anyone else in the same type of seats did. Just because you're younger doesn't mean you're fully able bodied, either...
