Today, while opening up to a few friends about how I was sexually abused as a child, one of them blurted "Pics or it didn't happen." How did the others react? With outrage? No, just with awkward chuckling. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Hold your friends accountable
Today, a guy made fun of sexual assault victims, and laughed when he heard they’re getting money and support. He also said I look like his next victim. I hit him, unapologetically. My friends told me to apologise, and that he’s really a great guy. No longer my friends. Talk shit, get hit. FML
Today, I told my friends I was kissed by a girl. They said "Yeah, probably by your mom." The sad thing is, they were right. FML
Am I still here?
Today, I laughed at a joke in a group chat. No one else reacted. After five minutes, I realized I’d replied to a message from last week. I had to also pretend I hadn't noticed and sat in silence. FML
One-uppers are so annoying
Today, I was in a support group talking about how my sister and I were raised in a cult. Never one to be outdone, the loud mouth of the group piped up and scoffed, “Oh please! If it didn’t make the news and no one died, then it wasn’t a cult!” Sorry I wasn’t murdered. It was still abusive as fuck. FML
Internet words IRL
Today, I decided to open up to my friends about losing my dad last year. To my horror, all they could do was laugh at and mock me, all because I said that he "unalived" himself. FML
Today, I was peppered with questions about my swollen eye and if I'd gotten into a fight. I couldn't bring myself to admit that I'd been brutally beaten into submission by a doorknob. FML
Today, at a mind-numbingly boring support session, everyone was talking about their hardships. One guy was talking about losing his leg in a car accident. I was half-asleep and asked without thinking, "Did you ever find it?" I almost shat my pants at the roomful of death glares that followed. FML
Today, after weeks of therapy for severe depression, my therapist thought it would be helpful to confess my deepest problems to my friends, to prove that it was alright to trust people. I did. They laughed. Hard. FML
Today, I was telling my friends a story. I added a few "embellishments" to make it more intense. One my friends piped up with, "I was with you, half of what you just said wasn't true". It's now all over Facebook and I'm known as "The Bullshitter". FML
Nailed that social interaction
Today, someone was making jokes and everyone started laughing, so I laughed. He then proceeded to look me dead in the eye and go, "What are you laughing at?" I started stuttering and mumbled back quietly, "I don't know, what are you laughing at?" He goes, "I'm not laughing" and then they all stared at me weird. FML

I'm sorry you had to deal with that. What a bunch of ****** assholes. Id say leave them immediately and find some real friends who won't ridicule you in such a horrible manner

Maybe people don't know how to deal with something so heavy. So they use humor to cope instead of continuing a morbid conversation and depressing everything. They could have just been trying to make light of the situation. Doesn't mean they didn't think it was ****** and that it sucked. No pun intented.

For people who are saying they know people who laugh when under stress- that is called pseudobulbar affect. It's an example of almost literal 'crossed wires' in the brain, for any number of reasons. It can cause involuntary responses that don't fit the emotion being felt, exaggerate displays of the response, or both. A person will cry when angry or happy, or may laugh when under duress or sad. I have it to some degree- except that mine is almost only triggered by my own emotional or physical stress. With physical contact like body exams being one such trigger. I can probably accurately say that we don't usually want to be laughing at the situation either. We can sometimes delay or stop it, but not always, being chewed out for it doesn't help us stop the behavior and can actually intensify and/or prolong the episode. We tend to feel bad enough about it without being told off for the episodes, so try to keep that in mind please. That said, the episodes are far more intense than "awkward chuckling" even when it is an incorrect response.

At least they are honest about it. Other "true friends" would pretend to be sympathetic, but actually think the same or more hurtful.

"It's not what you know, it's what you can prove in court." - Law abiding citizen. So yeah, basically pics or it didn't happen.
