Today, while cleaning my son's room, I found an envelope labelled "PRIVATE AND CONFIDENTIAL" under his bed. I opened it, only to find it was a glitter bomb. I couldn't get it all cleaned off myself before he got home. He just said "HAH! Serves you right!" and went to his room smirking. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, whilst cleaning the living room, I heard snickering coming from my bedroom. My two nephews had found my "play cupboard" and were blowing up condoms like balloons. FML
Grossed out
Today, after threatening my son for weeks that if he didn't clean his room, I would, I went in, equipped with a garbage bag, ready to throw away everything I found, only to discover dozens of empty bottles, two partially empty pizza boxes, Taco Bell wrappers, and cockroaches. FML
Abandoned
Today, I found a baby in a cradle on my doorstep. I was shocked that someone would do this, so I picked it up and uncovered the baby. It was actually a rudimentary stink bomb that went off in my face when I uncovered it. FML
What have you done?
Today, my son dropped a firecracker in my flour storage bin, probably thinking the pop would make flour go everywhere. I guess he’s never heard of a dust explosion because what he actually did was set fire to the flour, causing such a violent shockwave it blew the kitchen window out of the wall. FML
Nice try, kiddo
Today, I came home from work and went into the bathroom. I saw a poo on the toilet lid, and thinking it was a trick toy that my son had got to trick me, I picked it up. It wasn't a toy. FML
Today, I had to clean up after the kid who discovered he could finger paint with his poo. FML
Toynado
Today, I came home from work and found that my son had taken every single one of his toys out and left them on the floor. Plus some goldfish crackers. FML
Oh shit
Today, I received a package labeled “Confidential.” Excited, I opened it in front of my coworkers, thinking it was a PR gift. It was the new toilet seat I'd mistakenly sent to my work address instead of my house. FML
Today, I went into my parents room to empty their wastebasket. Next to it and around their bed, I found tissues that were soaked in an unknown sticky substance. I had to pick them up. FML
Today, I was babysitting to make a few extra dollars. While changing one of the kid's diapers, I turned around to find the other kid gone. I turned back around frantically, only to get poop flung at my face. I guess I found him. FML

It's really hard to feel sorry for you here when you opened an envelope that wasn't yours. Especially one that said "private and confidential" as a last chance warning. Totally deserved it.

You got got OP. Even if you "have a right" (nay, "obligation"!) to violate your children's privacy, they have an equal right to defend it.

Ok this is a blanket comment to the many morons who think they know something.... Children do NOT have a right to privacy from their parents, period. The first amendment is a protection for the people against the government ONLY. That being said, parents should still respect their children and give them privacy. OP deserved what she got, smart kid in my opinion.

Totally serves you right, it's a fine line between being a concerned parent and being nosy. You jumped right over it.

Oh, god that kid is amazing! XD

That's what you get when you don't respect your kid enough to trust them and give them privacy.

Hopefully, OP, you learned your lesson not to snoop around in other people's things. I have to give you props for raising a smart kid, though.

First of all HOLY CRAP there are a lot of posts. I am guessing most are against you? Sorry if they are. I think you did the right thing in opening it. You MIGHT (just a suggestion) have wanted to wait to do it WITH him though. I say that because my dad raised me to respect other people's stuff (wow, that sounded ruder than I meant it. Sorry) and to only open things like that with them there. I really DON'T mean to sound like I am bashing you. And, as a final note, could you have your son tell you how he set it up? I want to do it to my mom. She just blatantly looks at MY stuff without asking. I am 21 and MIGHT want to keep certain things (like what places I apply at) secret in order to surprise her later with the good news.

Apparently privacy is only for adults.
