Today, the three-year-old I was babysitting asked me where my boyfriend was. I told her he was at his house. I'm twenty and single. I lied to a three year old to make myself look less pathetic. FML

Today, the 8 year old that I babysit every week told me that it was sad that I didn't have a boyfriend while he has a girlfriend. I got burned by a 3rd grader. FML
Today, I was babysitting a five year-old boy. Somehow the topic of relationships came up, and he asked me if I had a boyfriend. When I told him that I was single, he got all excited and asked if he could be my boyfriend. It would have been cute… except he was the first guy to ever ask me out. I'm 18. FML
Today, while babysitting, the little boy explained to me why I was single, reasons such as 'unattractive' and 'not the girlfriend type'. I cried. FML
Today, I'm 19 years old and, having never been on a date, I agreed to let my friend set me up. He was adorable, young, with blond hair and blue eyes...and 4 years old. My friend tricked me into babysitting. FML
Today, my girlfriend's mother invited me to her 18th birthday. She lied about her age. I have been screwing a minor for 2 years. FML
Today, I was babysitting a three-year-old. She asked me what was wrong with my belly. I had to explain to her that I'm just fat. Twice. FML
Today, I was babysitting a boy who was 11 years old. He told me that he loved me and wanted to be my boyfriend. I told him that I think he is a really great kid but I'm 17 so it would never work out. He said okay. When his parents came home he told them that I hit him and started crying. FML
Today, I went to an elementary school for volunteer work. I was asked to read to a group of kids during one of the classes. Before I started reading, a girl raised her hand and asked me if I had a boyfriend and if I was single. I asked her why and she said "My daddy wanted to know." I'm 16. FML
Today, I had to lie to my boyfriend about having plans on tonight so he'd think I had a life outside of him. All my "friends" are going to a party. I'm not invited. FML
Today, my boyfriend came to visit from another state. My mom didn't want me to go to his hotel, but I did. When she asked about it, I lied to her and said I didn't go. She the showed me a picture of my car outside his hotel. FML

I would fire you as a babysitter if I found out you were putting such antiquated ideals in my daughter's head. Who wants their child to grow up thinking that they can't be happy living an independent life?

Please stop giving children you come into contact with the idea that they need a boyfriend to be cool. In most cases, a female is actually cooler when she's single. Don't paint the wrong picture for that 3 year old girl anymore. Tell her the truth next time. "I don't have a boyfriend because I'm smart enough not to tie myself down with a sloppy, nasty, lying, lazy, selfish, possessive, jealous boy because that's what most boys are really like sweety. You just focus on getting a degree and keeping your finances pretty, shnookums!" :p (mostly kidding about what's in those "quotes" lol)

There is no need for you to lie to a 3 year-old--or anyone for that matter--about being 20 and single. No one should be tied down at 20. Unless of course you never date. Then okay, lying is valid.

At 20, most people I knew WERE single. There's absolutely nothing wrong with being single at 20. YLIF because you're so insecure that you have to lie to a 3 year old.

What's pathetic is that you think you're pathetic if you don't have a boyfriend, which may be why you don't have one. No body wants a BF or GF who doesn't have their own life. Independence is way cooler than dependence.

I'm twenty and single and I've never had a boyfriend. And you know what? I don't see anything wrong with it. I like to focus (for now at least) on more important pursuits, like school, work, my friends, my family, etc. Sure I keep my eyes open for nice guys, but it's not my number one priority. And why are you relying on other people to validate your existence? Ever hear of independence?
