Today, one of the patients on the mental health unit where I work looked me up and down and said, "Well, I guess it's a popular misconception that all fat people are jolly." FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, at school, one of my students confidently told me that I "wasn't hiding my baby bump very well anymore." I'm not pregnant. Just fat, apparently. FML
Thanks Karen
Today, I was taking a customer's order when she said she'd better go for a salad, because she was getting fat. She was actually very slim, so I told her she wasn't fat at all. She took one look at me and snorted, "Yeah, not compared to you, that's for sure." FML
Today, I decided to come out to a co-worker. She looked at me, then laughed, and said, "You can't be gay, you're fat!" FML
Sir, this is a Wendy's
Today, I had a customer go on a 15-minute rant about how disgusting fat people are, and how they deserve it if they develop diabetes, gout, etc. Yes, I am fat. I eat well, I exercise, I've had a gastric balloon, I've been to weight loss retreats, dieticians, personal trainers, and yet I'm "gross." FML
Today, a coworker told me I was "fat shaming" them by discussing weight loss with other coworkers. FML
Today, my psychiatrist asked me if I felt bad about my weight. When I said no, he looked surprised and said, "Why not?" FML
Today, my friend was complaining about how fat she was. To make her feel better I said, "Psh, you're not fat! In fact we're about the same weight!" She looked at me for a second, then burst into tears sobbing, "I'm fat! I'm fat!" FML
Rekt
Today, I was working my job checking people in at the gym. A sweaty, chubby woman came up to me complaining about how our staff seems so fit. I replied, "We like to hire people who have bodies that motivate our clients!" She gave a blank stare, then said, "So how did you get the job?" FML
Siren alert
Today, after weeks of everyone at work avoiding me, I finally asked my coworker what was up. She informed me, “You’re 350lbs and try to dress like an office siren, it’s pathetic to look at.” FML
Today, I told my boyfriend that I gained a few pounds and thought I looked fat. He replied that I looked the same and that I shouldn't worry because he likes fat girls. I never thought I was fat before this. FML

He's just mad at Op.
MeanBeagle 22
plot twist. op is a patient and is talking to a santa Claus cutout
GoldFishPony 21
Well technically op is in the institution. They just happen to work there instead of being a patient

Agreed. The thing about people in mental institutions or anything similar is that you cannot take offense to anything they say. Working in a field like that, it's one of the first things you should be told. And I say this from personal experience.

#63 is right you know, they may not realize how rude their comment is

Don't take a mental patient seriously. No offense.
Astrum14 24
Saying "no offense" doesn't actually make things any less offensive. It just makes it clear that you have no self awareness.
ShitHappen_fml 15
It's simply a way of being polite.
Ichiya 29
Saying no offense means that while the comment may seem offensive, you weren't trying to offend.

27 - actually i disagree, if use correctly it implies that the person saying it is just being honest, rather than saying it to be hurtful. like "no offence, but you are overweight" vs "haha your so fat". so although offence is taken either way, you take MORE offence when the intention is to offend.
brand125 17
(timed out after i posted) remember i say "if used correctly". i mean that it makes a big differnce the situation its used, just because you say "no offence" before something rude doesnt mean you arnt being rude and intentionally offensive. like, if it is your doctor telling you youre overweight vs a person you dont like.

Just because it's a mental patient doesn't automatically make anything they say crazy, people get institutionalized for different reasons. I personally don't take what anyone says seriously because I don't care.

#5 no offense just means that even though you no it is offensive, u still r saying it. If it wer not overused so much, I might speak differently

Most people don't need reason to be insensitive. They just are.

God. People are so judgmental.

He might see you differently to what you actually are.

Very true. Since OP is at work it might just be how he acts at work and be a total joy outside of work. I know I am not jolly in work

Don't mind him. He's just mad.
