Today, once again I tried to convince my dad to stop smoking. And once again, while I was speaking, he lit up a cigarette and smoked until my asthma flared up and I was wheezing so hard that I had to leave the room. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Trust the science
Today, my doctor told me my asthma was being triggered by my dad's smoking. He wrote a note to my dad, asking him to refrain from smoking while around me. My dad took one look at the note, then threw it in the trash, saying the doctor "doesn't know what he's talking about." FML
Crisis control
Today, my dad hit his mid-life crisis. When I came home and said hi, he told me to shut up, then went to the living room. He then lit up a cigarette and started muttering about having to put up with me, then went into a coughing fit, because he's never smoked before in his life. FML
NOT NOW!
Today, while driving me to the hospital because I was having an asthma attack, my mother lit a cigarette. FML
Today, my dad found out I recently tried weed. He called me a useless waste of air and grounded me for the rest of the year. Then he went outside and smoked his third cigarette of the morning. FML
On fire
Today, my parents have smoked for most of their lives and are both healthy as horses. Meanwhile, I smoked for two years, then went through hell quitting, and just had my first asthma attack and was lectured about "long term effects of tobacco, even after cessation." THIS IS BULLSHIT! FML
Just go already!
Today, I told my dad to go to the doctor, as he’s been hacking his lungs up every minute for a month, and I've not had a decent night’s sleep since then. He insists he’s not sick, and my mom yelled at me because she sleeps in the same room and is able to sleep through it. FML
Prank gone wrong
Today, my dad thought it would be funny to make me hold an unlit cigarette before FaceTiming my mom so he could prank her by saying, "He's got a new habit." My mom did not find it funny, especially when I mentioned to her that I did not willingly participate. Now I'm stuck in this car, listening to them argue. FML
Do as I say, not as I do
Today, I was having a cigarette in a smoking area when a mother with a pram strode towards me and exaggerated a cough to make some sort of point. Reluctantly, I put it out and walked off. I then turned around to see her lighting up a cigarette, and blowing smoke all over her baby. FML
Today, my mom found my dad's hidden stash of cigarettes. He told her they were mine and now I have to spend two hours at therapy for my "smoking problem" every weekend. I've never smoked. FML
Don't engage with these people
Today, I overheard my mom telling my aunt what an “attention-seeking drama queen” I’ve been lately. All I asked was that she not smoke around me. I’ve had asthma all my life and am currently recovering from Covid. She thinks it’s all a conspiracy, meanwhile I haven’t taken a deep breath in weeks. FML

#1 In principle I agree with you. However I would have very little respect for someone who puts their own desire to smoke above their child's health. That respect plummets zero when he deliberately lights up in front of her in an attempt to possibly trigger an asthma attack only to prove a point. That kind of person doesn't deserve anybody's respect.

You could always get back at him subtly by taking his cigarettes and wiping the butt in a sweaty crevice of yours.

Life lessons: passive aggressiveness can make asthma flare up.

Child services anyone?

Do what I did when my dad started smoking; find every pack he buys, crush them, and then leave them where you found 'em. When he asks about it tell him you did it because you want him to live.

Child endangerment charges might help motivate him to stop. Such a selfish thing he's doing. Sorry.

if you under 18 you should consider emancipation. if you are 18 and older you should move out.

I lost my dad last year because of cigarettes. He was 57. Keep trying to get him to quit...

Respect his choice, because you cannot make a smoker quit, they will not be able to quit until they make the decision on their own.

I made 2 quit. You just have to show that you care about their health and them as a person. It puts reality in front of them and sets their priorities straight.

Respect his choice? By the sound of it, this was a deliberate assault. OP asked their father not to smoke because of their asthma, and he responded by lighting up to trigger an attack. I'd call that a matter for the police.
