Today, once again I tried to convince my dad to stop smoking. And once again, while I was speaking, he lit up a cigarette and smoked until my asthma flared up and I was wheezing so hard that I had to leave the room. FML

Today, my doctor told me my asthma was being triggered by my dad's smoking. He wrote a note to my dad, asking him to refrain from smoking while around me. My dad took one look at the note, then threw it in the trash, saying the doctor "doesn't know what he's talking about." FML
Today, my dad hit his mid-life crisis. When I came home and said hi, he told me to shut up, then went to the living room. He then lit up a cigarette and started muttering about having to put up with me, then went into a coughing fit, because he's never smoked before in his life. FML
Today, while driving me to the hospital because I was having an asthma attack, my mother lit a cigarette. FML
Today, my dad found out I recently tried weed. He called me a useless waste of air and grounded me for the rest of the year. Then he went outside and smoked his third cigarette of the morning. FML
Today, my parents have smoked for most of their lives and are both healthy as horses. Meanwhile, I smoked for two years, then went through hell quitting, and just had my first asthma attack and was lectured about "long term effects of tobacco, even after cessation." THIS IS BULLSHIT! FML
Today, I told my dad to go to the doctor, as he’s been hacking his lungs up every minute for a month, and I've not had a decent night’s sleep since then. He insists he’s not sick, and my mom yelled at me because she sleeps in the same room and is able to sleep through it. FML
Today, my dad thought it would be funny to make me hold an unlit cigarette before FaceTiming my mom so he could prank her by saying, "He's got a new habit." My mom did not find it funny, especially when I mentioned to her that I did not willingly participate. Now I'm stuck in this car, listening to them argue. FML
Today, I was having a cigarette in a smoking area when a mother with a pram strode towards me and exaggerated a cough to make some sort of point. Reluctantly, I put it out and walked off. I then turned around to see her lighting up a cigarette, and blowing smoke all over her baby. FML
Today, my mom found my dad's hidden stash of cigarettes. He told her they were mine and now I have to spend two hours at therapy for my "smoking problem" every weekend. I've never smoked. FML
Today, I overheard my mom telling my aunt what an “attention-seeking drama queen” I’ve been lately. All I asked was that she not smoke around me. I’ve had asthma all my life and am currently recovering from Covid. She thinks it’s all a conspiracy, meanwhile I haven’t taken a deep breath in weeks. FML

#1 In principle I agree with you. However I would have very little respect for someone who puts their own desire to smoke above their child's health. That respect plummets zero when he deliberately lights up in front of her in an attempt to possibly trigger an asthma attack only to prove a point. That kind of person doesn't deserve anybody's respect.

My dad and my uncle had a ******* terrible smoking problem, they were going through pack after pack ect so I separately bet each that if they didn't smoke for a month then I would take them (note these were at different times) to a steak dinner just me and the individual I had everyone that they knew on their asses just making sure they didn't slip And they passed so I took them out and now my dad has quit for a year and my uncle about three months (his was more recent obviously) but I encourage you to do the same please.

Call his bluff. Instead of leaving the room, sit there wheezing with no inhaler. Once he finally pays attention tell him something like as long as he suffocates himself, you're gonna suffocate yourself. Just don't expect it to work. I've buried almost a dozen family members from smoking related cancers and nothing but impending death and guilt made them stop; sometimes barely even then.

I'm not sure that would work. OP could potentially get themselves killed doing that. In theory it's a good way to teach their father that his smoking not only affects his health but OP's as well (he might not care about his own health and life but I hope he cares about his child's) but that could end very badly for OP.

Couldn't you just hide his cigarette packs? And when he comes looking for them, you could speak to him. Also tell him about the cost he would incur if you were sent to the hospital. Thats an effective remedy.

Smoking will come back and bite him in the a** both my grandparents smoked. One of them died from COPD and the other is starting to get COPD. They are in there early 70's. hopefully he will stop before its too late.

Your dad smokes in the house? My parents both smoke, but they never ever smoke in the house cause they have kids (my sister and I, but we're teenagers) anyway, they always smoke outside. They will smoke in their car, however, never when there are kids in the car or people who are uncomfortable with it, and usually they try to not just before someone else gets in the car, unless they don't know that someone will be with them soon.

You can't make him quit smoking. That's something he needs to do for himself. No amount of nagging / pleading / reasoning will work. This is an addiction, very much like a drug addiction and it takes a lot of work to break from it (I should know). But yout Dad definitely should make an effort to not smoke around you. If he doesn't , then he is a huge ass and YOU should make every effort to not be around the smoke as it is a very REAL danger to you. Good luck , OP!
