Today, my tennis coach showed up to practice in an all white outfit. I exclaimed, "You're looking very white today!" He's African American. FML

i really do wish people would just say "black" instead of "african american." i mean, when people start calling british black people "african americans," we've crossed the line.

no that's what he's saying their not. that we lump all dark people and call them African American, when their could be some from Britain.

I say stuff like this all the time, not a reason for FML...

I never realized that BRITISH Africans are Americans.

If you're going to call someone black an African American, you can call white people Caucasian.

I feel like I might understand that what you were trying to say was positive, but please, don't skip English class next time.

Back in the 30's and such, it was a compliment to be called "white." Eg. "That's mighty white of you, sir" (The Blue Dahlia; 1946). Maybe he took it as such. Probably not, though.
