Today, my oldest friend got engaged to her loving boyfriend of one year. Meanwhile, I can't even get my boyfriend of more than four years to commit to a decision of what he wants for dinner. FML

Today, I congratulated my friend for getting engaged. This is the fourth friend of mine this year that has become engaged. I haven't even had a boyfriend yet. FML
Today, my sister, who has been seeing a guy for a year, got engaged. I've been dating my boyfriend for over 5 years and let out some not so subtle hints and he basically refused to propose. This is her second marriage in the time of my relationship. FML
Today, after three years of dating, my boyfriend finally proposed. To my best friend. FML
Today, my best friend got engaged to the guy she's been seeing for five years. He also happens to be the man I've been in love with for eight. As she was giving me the details, she nonchalantly gave me her reason for accepting the proposal: "Why the hell not, there's always divorce." FML
Today, my long-term boyfriend took me to my favorite restaurant. After the main course, he knelt down and finally proposed to me. I was so happy, I almost cried. Until an old woman came over and said I was way too old for him. I'm three years younger than my fiancé. FML
Today, my boyfriend of two years asked his friend to propose to me for him, because he was too nervous to do it himself. FML
Today, my sister broke up with her boyfriend of 4 years because he hadn't "popped" the question. I've just spent the last 2 months helping him plan the perfect proposal. FML
Today, my fiancé of two years told me he was bored of me and he'd just prolonged the engagement to see if anyone more interesting would come along in the mean time. He was upset because no one did. FML
Today, it's our fifth-year anniversary with my boyfriend. I gave him his gift and walked over to the kitchen to serve him some food I'd made. On my way back to the dining room, I overheard his plans with his friend to ditch me in 10 minutes. FML
Today, my boyfriend of 3 years announced that he is not ready for marriage, and won’t be for 'at least' another 2 years. Of course he waited to tell me this 2 days after he had proposed to me in front of hundreds of people, I said yes, and we announced it to all our family members and friends. FML

Why are you comparing the two? You obviously love your boyfriend, so what if he can't choose dinner. It's just dinner.

You shouldn't rush if he doesn't feel that he's ready. As long as your happy and you're treating each other as you both should, what's the big deal? Just because it hasn't happened before your friend got to tie the knot doesn't mean it won't happen at all. Just chill out.

Try asking him where he sees himself in 5-10 years. He might surprise you with his answer or he just makes you realise that he's not for keeps, but I really hope that it will be a positive answer. Good luck!

Four years, this is when it starts to get... tricky. I work with a man who knew his wife for Seven Years before he popped the question. They have been happily married now for 15 years, have a son. I have a female friend who dated/lived with a guy for seven years. They got married, and then divorced in the space of six months. I guess all I can say is, go with your gut.

4 years is a long time. Talk to him about what you want/need in a relationship. I know it's hard, but if your want/needs aren't the same as his, then it's time to move on.
