Today, my mother asked me how pasta is harvested. She actually thought it grew out of the ground. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Masterchef
Today, my daughter tried to make pasta by putting a pot on the stove, pouring the noodles in without adding water, and turning on the stove. Then she asked me, "How come these aren’t getting soft like when you make them?" She’s 19. FML
Now we're cooking
Today, I made homemade pasta from scratch. I spent hours kneading the dough, rolling it out, and cutting it into perfect strips. When I went to cook it, I realized that I forgot to add salt to the dough. The pasta tasted like damp cardboard. FML
Today, I offered to help my mother-in-law boil noodles for some noodle soup. She loudly said, "You know how!?" I'm a chef. FML
Gullible's travels
Today, my 15 year-old sister asked which animal rice comes from. She believed every word when my mum told her it's harvested from tiny cows in Asia. FML
Today, my mom found out that paper is made from trees. She read it on a garbage truck. I then had to explain to her how it's made. FML
Today, I found out that my home-made pasta sauce had a weird taste to it because my basil patch in the backyard has become my dog's preferred spot to pee. FML
Yummy
Today, I was boiling pasta and tasting it every now and then too see if it was done. As an afterthought, I threw in some lentil pasta as well. Only after tasting a few more times did I notice the maggots that were now slowly rising in the boiling water. I didn't expect that much protein in those lentils. FML
Recycling at its finest
Today, I was having a vegetarian meal at my date's house. She was very proud because she grew all the veggies herself; she even made the fertiliser herself. I was halfway through the meal before I asked what she meant by "made her own fertiliser." It was human shit; her own human shit. FML
Pica?
Today, my mom ate some flowers without knowing if they were safe. Turns out they are slightly poisonous and she had an upset stomach, but she will be fine. Her excuse? "I didn't know it had poison." I had to explain that's exactly why you don't eat plants you don't know are poisonous or not. FML
Let it all hang out
Today, my mom was pulling up weeds on the terrace while wearing gardening gloves. Why is that worth mentioning? Because that's literally all she was wearing. FML

Yeah, pasta grows on trees, just like apples, pizza, money, and donuts. See? And I don't know why people call me dumb. I'm chalk full of knowledge.

Hoopachi 19
What school teaches you how to cook pasta???
Saxicolous 27
Maybe not, but it might give you enough knowledge and common sense to help you figure out that it doesn't come out of the ground.

Noticing now I misread his question and answered it like a yes or no, I think my point still stands strong though!

We actually had a whole term on cooking pasta (including different sauces, etc.). Not a special cooking school or anything, just regular secondary school, about Year 8 I think. It was just part of Design Technology.

Technically pasta does come out of the ground. Because it is made of grain and where does grain come from. The ground

In the 1940s the BBC released an April fools day joke saying spaghetti came from trees and thousands of people called in. If you don't know you don't know :D

I learned about this in 7th grade while we read, "War of the Worlds." The more you know.

Yes awesome video. One of the first video spoofs. Young Italian ladies in long flowing dresses harvesting what appeared to be cooked pasta from "pasta trees"

This very famous hoax started April 1 hoaxes.

Yeah....but that was when spaghetti had only just started being imported and most people genuinely didn't know much about it. In 2015, in the UK, I don't see you could not know this. It's like not knowing where bread comes from.

Wait. So Beer is vegetable? AWW YISSS.
praesidiem 16
All things that grow out of the ground, are vegetables, right? #33, I think we can count beer as a vegetable.
splinteredApple 36
#36 so if something that grows out of the ground is a vegetable, does that mean trees are a vegetable? If that's true then fruits grow on vegetables.
Diarrhea_Volcano 29
There was a science show that talked about that
splinteredApple 36
