Today, my husband and I went to marriage counselling. I confessed something that was bothering me, but he didn't understand. Our counselor repeated word-for-word what I said right back at him. He turned to me angrily and shouted, "Why couldn't you just say that the first time?!" FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Good start
Today, my husband and I went to our first counseling sessions, where the main focus was communication. When the therapist called us in together to discuss techniques we could use at home, my husband looked around, rolled his eyes, and responded with, "Uh huh" to every question. FML
Mask off
Today, we went to couples' counselling. After a while the therapist said to me, “Madam, since we've started, your husband has managed two full sentences without you interrupting him, and most of what you said was, frankly, childish whining.” I'm starting to realise I might be the problem. FML
Cover up
Today, after a nasty fight with my military husband, which resulted in mandatory marriage counseling, he told me we needed to talk about the fight. Not talk it over and apologize; talk it over so our stories are consistent when we see the therapist. FML
Today, my husband and I finally agreed on something: marriage counseling. FML
Today, my marriage counselor got divorced. FML
Today, I mentioned to my wife that we should try marriage counseling. She responded by denying it while throwing a carton of milk at me. FML
Neverending
Today, I came home and my spouse decided to bring up our past arguments. I apologized to him for the mean things I said, not conjuring his faults. I spoke to him gently and was interested in his thoughts. I validated his feelings. I was engaged in the discussion. He responded to me with, “Too little too late!” FML
Cancel the wedding
Today, I tried to talk to my soon-to-be-husband about how he needs to take a more active approach in his own life. It devolved to him screaming at me and putting words in my mouth. This has been going on for six months. FML
Today, I told my wife that she gets 100% of me and I keep nothing from her. She told me she doesn't want it and that I should get counseling. FML
Don't give up
Today, I told my husband that I didn't think our marriage was going to survive our stillbirth, and that we should get divorced. He said, "No way. We're going to marriage and grief counseling and not giving up on our marriage." He just doesn't understand that I blame myself so much and want to set him free. FML

I'm so sorry OP.. I hope things end up working out for you. divorces are hard for everyone and I never would wish that on anyone. (never been through one myself just seen a lot of it happens to friends parents etc) good luck!

Communication is the key. If you don't have it this marriage will fail.

What is all this "communication is the key" bullshit? Obviously coming from people who have NEVER been married. Women don't wanna hear what a man really thinks or feels. They want to hear what they think and feel coming out his mouth.
ellytoad 13
But hearing it coming out of his mouth requires him to speak, doesn't it?

I'm sorry, then I suppose my 10 years of marriage have all been a sham? Because in my marriage (and every other successful marriage I've ever heard of), communication IS the key. Maybe your marriage works like you say, but if that's the case then I feel sorry for you. Your view of women is incredibly immature.

Well, my parents have lasted 23 years, and communication has been a major factor in that. Of course, they do love each other, but without communication, I'm not sure how good their relationship would be. And my mom would much rather hear what my dad really thinks than for him to feed her some bullshit he thinks she wants to hear. I know this because she has told me. Thanks for generalizing, though.

You must have an awful wife who only cares about herself. A good wife would actually care about what her husband feels. I feel sorry for you. She ruined your views on women.

I apologize that you must be in one of society's "typical" marriages, but in mine communication is definitely a must, I love hearing what my man is thinking and feeling pertaining to different subjects or events. Not all women are hypocritical bitches, there's a few jewels among us.

27, that's coming from someone who doesn't have a ******. A lot of woman actually care and want to rationalize what's going on. We like to hear opinions and thoughts of our partners. It's narrow minded people like you that keep that stereotype alive and well.

I have a hard time believing that you said a set of words, and then another guy said the same exact set of words, and he all of a sudden understood. Either you say things really weirdly, or your husband is deaf, or the way the counsellor said it was not the same as you said it.

Agreed
Epikouros 32
Or her husband has gotten used to tuning out everything she says.
ellytoad 13
Shouting at someone over nothing indicates a grim outlook, in my opinion. Anyway, is the OP's husband secretly going through and thumbing down all of the sympathetic comments or something?
perdix 31
That's really not all that uncommon. Just think of it as the price of being married that you have to pay a third-party to get through to your spouse. At least, this gives him a chance to address the issues, before you might consider the big D.
EmazingLight 9
True.

I didn't see sex anywhere in that list.
