Today I adopted a dog. He ran away the same day. FML
Today, I found my dog, who had been missing for over a month, at the local pound. Clearly it was my dog, she responded to her name and cried when she saw me. However, the woman there told me I could not simply take her, I had to follow through with all policies. I paid $250 to adopt my own dog. FML
Today, the dog my now ex-boyfriend and I own together bit me bad enough that I needed stitches on my face and my hand... he then broke up with me and saying it was all too much for him and has kept the dog... FML
Today, my boyfriend and I are devastated to return our newly adopted "cat friendly" dog to the shelter. He's perfect, other than the fact that he clearly wants to eat our cats. FML
Today, my boyfriend and I broke up. He now argues that he should keep the dog. We only dated for three months, and I've had the dog since I was ten. FML

Today, at the rescue group I volunteer at, we finally adopted out a dog that has been with us for a few years now. This was an amazing thing for us because we never thought he'd get adopted. As we were getting excited and hugging each other, the dog ran away. FML
Today, I broke up with my boyfriend. I'd trusted that he and his ex were “co-parenting” a dog that he and his ex adopted while they were together and nothing more was happening. His ex is pregnant and he’s the father. He insists that he doesn’t love her anymore and it was a “mistake.” He wants me to take him back. FML
Today, I decided to adopt a 11 year-old dog that had been in need of a home for several months. Two hours after I got him home, I discovered him dead in the backyard. FML

Wow...that's just messed up. I mean, you kinda deserve it for abandoning your pet - that's just cruel, you should've dumped the guy as soon as he seriously suggested it so it's kinda karma. The situation is still really messed up though so FYL..

I would never abandon my dog. Even if my partner of eight years asked me to. Sorry, you adopt a dog, you sign on for life. Only legit excuse I can see for animals needing to be rehomed is if someone is too ill to take care of their pet, they're elderly and have moved into a care facility that won't allow pets, or they've died. Abandoning a pet on moving day is bullshit. Abandoning a pet for a relationship is bullshit. I've worked with an animal rescue long enough to know what happens to the majority of the animals that end up in rescues, and how those cute little puppies end up in pet store windows. It's disgusting. My dream is to not have any animal rescues left to volunteer for, because people will grow up and be responsible for their pets and start treating them as living creatures instead of furniture.

My boyfriend hated my dog at the begining... I would have never gotten rid of him for my boyfriend. Now because my boyfriend actually cared about me enough to get past his hatred for my dog they love eachother and we are a big happy family with a baby. If a guy wont get past your pet they dont really care about you.
