Today I adopted a dog. He ran away the same day. FML
Today, I found my dog, who had been missing for over a month, at the local pound. Clearly it was my dog, she responded to her name and cried when she saw me. However, the woman there told me I could not simply take her, I had to follow through with all policies. I paid $250 to adopt my own dog. FML
Today, the dog my now ex-boyfriend and I own together bit me bad enough that I needed stitches on my face and my hand... he then broke up with me and saying it was all too much for him and has kept the dog... FML
Today, my boyfriend and I are devastated to return our newly adopted "cat friendly" dog to the shelter. He's perfect, other than the fact that he clearly wants to eat our cats. FML
Today, my boyfriend and I broke up. He now argues that he should keep the dog. We only dated for three months, and I've had the dog since I was ten. FML

Today, I broke up with my boyfriend. I'd trusted that he and his ex were “co-parenting” a dog that he and his ex adopted while they were together and nothing more was happening. His ex is pregnant and he’s the father. He insists that he doesn’t love her anymore and it was a “mistake.” He wants me to take him back. FML
Today, I decided to adopt a 11 year-old dog that had been in need of a home for several months. Two hours after I got him home, I discovered him dead in the backyard. FML

Wow...that's just messed up. I mean, you kinda deserve it for abandoning your pet - that's just cruel, you should've dumped the guy as soon as he seriously suggested it so it's kinda karma. The situation is still really messed up though so FYL..

You get absolutely no sympathy from me. I would NEVER allow ANYONE to tell me to get rid of my cat... Not a boyfriend, not a husband, not a roommate, not anyone, for any reason. Not even if they had allergies.

I do feel bad for you, but why would you EVER give up your pet as per someone else's request? If I were dating someone who told me to get rid of my cat, I'd be like "No. The cat stays. If you have a problem with that, then YOU leave!"

Okay 1) I want every person who says, "You shouldn't have given him up" to think of every time they made a lonely cat person joke and realize that's how it starts choosing pet over human. 2) Pounds don't keep pets very long. My theory is that he was going to break up with OP wanted her dog and couldn't legally just take the dog so made getting rid of the dog a condition of staying together she relinquished legal ownership he dumped her then legally adopted the dog from the pound and boom now it's his dog and she can't do shit about it.
