Today, my child-hating friend who vowed never to have any no matter what, announced that she's pregnant. I've had three IVF cycles, spent $90k in fertility treatments, and still can't conceive. FML

Today, I have been trying to get pregnant for 4 years. I’ve gone through numerous expensive fertility treatments with no success. A former friend of mine owes me almost $2K. I’ve asked for the money back numerous times so that I can use it to pay for another round of IVF. She won’t pay. She just announced that she's pregnant.. FML
Today, I was told that I will never be able to have children. Thankfully for my husband, his girlfriend sure can. FML
Today, my close friend who’s always been incredibly vocal about how much she hates children, never wants to be around them or have anything to do with them, stopped speaking to me. She’s incredibly "hurt" that I asked another friend to be my unborn child's godmother instead of her. FML
Today, my friend told me she wanted to get pregnant. I thought that was good news, but then she said she wanted my boyfriend to be the father of her baby. FML
Today, after years of trying, my husband and I did IVF, fertilized 5 eggs, and the whole process was really rough. Now, a year after giving birth to our daughter, my husband wants to use another egg, but I don’t want to go through that all again. FML
Today, my mother-in-law said: "People who don't have kids are children of the devil." I'm infertile, she knows this. FML
Today, we have three kids. Two were "natural" and our third was through expensive IVF. Of all three kids, only our IVF son turned out to be a real asshole. Now he’s going to jail for armed robbery and pushing a pregnant woman to the floor. Wish we’d saved that IVF money and paid off the mortgage. FML
Today, we recently found out I'm infertile, and I thought we were both devastated, until my partner posted a drunk video to Facebook, basically celebrating that we will never have, "crying, nappy-shitting, soul-sucking, bank account-draining little sods." FML
Today, I told my mom I was thinking of having a baby. She told me it was a huge mistake because children cost a fortune, make you miserable, and if she'd had her chance again she would have gotten her tubes tied when she was 18 and saved herself the grief. Gee, thanks mom. FML
Today, after four years of infertility, my wife and I found out our miracle pregnancy was going to be a boy; our first child. Twenty minutes later, we found out our child has a terminal genetic condition, and will die in the next 4 weeks. FML

FYL, OP. I really do hope you're able to conceive one day. And if you don't want to adopt, then you shouldn't feel pressured to by anyone else, since it seems that a lot of people are saying that all over this thread. Some people don't want to take the risk of the birth mother changing her mind. Not to mention the hard choice of whether to tell the child they were adopted, what age to tell them, and how. Then there's the possibility of them wanting to find their biological family and risk meeting some people who could be a very bad influence. Some day I will want kids of my own as well and if the OP wants to do the same, she should be able to without people being rude to her. Some people want to experience pregnancy and all the symptoms of it, good or bad, and there's nothing wrong with that.

You know what I could do with 90k?? A-frigging-lot! I'm a student, I could do useful stuff, idiots like you are wasting your damn time. You don't deserve a child, actually, you'd just waste all your money when they're 0-6, buying toys and clothing and vacations they won't remember, and then you'll be eating from like foodbanks and stuff by the time they're 14.

Who in the hell are you to tell someone you don't even know whether or not they deserve a child? More importantly, who the hell are you to tell someone what life decisions to make? It's more idiotic to take in a child who you won't love completely than to do fertility treatments. Children can tell when they're not as loved as others, so adopting might be a poor decision for the OP to make. Besides, how do you know that the OP would waste all of her money if she did have a child? How do you know the birth mother won't change her mind if the OP tries adoption? How do you know if she's tried adoption and been rejected? Unless you can give proof of what you said, you have no place to tell other people how to live their lives.

Clearly you don't understand that maternal need to want a child so bad and to do anything you can to have that child. You are nothing to tell someone that you have never met that they don't deserve a child. If OP is doing anything and everything to have that child, then they deserve it more than you ever would. It's not as simple as 'I want to adopt a child' *Someone hands you a baby* The adoption process can be just as heartbreaking and miserable as multiple failed attempts to conceive! There are no rules on who can make a baby but a million and one rules to adopt/foster..

Anyone writing YDI or posting a joke is evil, and I hope you burn in hell. You have no respect for OP or people like OP's pain. Try for once to see through someone else's eyes. This is one of the most painful things one can go through. People telling OP to adopt prolly have never had to seriously consider it. Think about it like this, you get a wonderful new baby yay, and 12 - 18 years down the line that kid is really thinking about finding their real parents. You'll never be good enough. Who wants to not be able to have a kid, get one and go through that? OP I know your pain, and although I haven't met someone yet (only making it worse and worse chances for me. Consider yourself ahead of many in that respect) I understand why you are doing what you are doing. Hopefully your dreams will come true and you can post on this story that you did get preggo and **** all the assholes. Best of luck.

Its going to be a little while. We're about to have our first, but we want two. And we want a girl. So to help a child that needs a home, and make sure we get a girl, we're going to adopt. I'm excited about it

I understand that people want to have THEIR kids, THEIR genes, etc. But isnt that selfish? There are millions of children dying everyday because they dont have food, water and a home, and you spend 90K dollars because you want your chromosomes in a person? Sorry, but I think it's wrong.

#418: It's wrong of the people who are reproducing who can't provide a roof over a child's head, or food in its mouth, or water in its belly. It isn't wrong of the people who are in a position to have children, who have a good steady home for them. The OP, or anyone in a situation like OP shouldn't have to be responsible for picking up the slack of some irresponsible, careless human being who wasn't thinking when they were impregnated, with the exception of people who were so unfortunately raped.

I agree that the people who are having kids one after another and cant support them are wrong (doh), but that doesnt mean that its okay for people like the OP, who have the means to support how many kids they want, to create another human being and spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to do it when there are million of other people in need of help. This is about their genes. They want kids of their own. Period. This is not about them being able to raise children and other people not bieng able to do that.

I know how you feel. My husband and I have been trying for almost 5 years to get pregnant and we can't afford IVF. Keep trying, don't let anyone convince you to stop, but don't rule out using a surrogate or adopting. There are thousands of children out there that would love to put up with you :).
