Today, my child-hating friend who vowed never to have any no matter what, announced that she's pregnant. I've had three IVF cycles, spent $90k in fertility treatments, and still can't conceive. FML

Today, I have been trying to get pregnant for 4 years. I’ve gone through numerous expensive fertility treatments with no success. A former friend of mine owes me almost $2K. I’ve asked for the money back numerous times so that I can use it to pay for another round of IVF. She won’t pay. She just announced that she's pregnant.. FML
Today, I was told that I will never be able to have children. Thankfully for my husband, his girlfriend sure can. FML
Today, my close friend who’s always been incredibly vocal about how much she hates children, never wants to be around them or have anything to do with them, stopped speaking to me. She’s incredibly "hurt" that I asked another friend to be my unborn child's godmother instead of her. FML
Today, my friend told me she wanted to get pregnant. I thought that was good news, but then she said she wanted my boyfriend to be the father of her baby. FML
Today, after years of trying, my husband and I did IVF, fertilized 5 eggs, and the whole process was really rough. Now, a year after giving birth to our daughter, my husband wants to use another egg, but I don’t want to go through that all again. FML
Today, my mother-in-law said: "People who don't have kids are children of the devil." I'm infertile, she knows this. FML
Today, we have three kids. Two were "natural" and our third was through expensive IVF. Of all three kids, only our IVF son turned out to be a real asshole. Now he’s going to jail for armed robbery and pushing a pregnant woman to the floor. Wish we’d saved that IVF money and paid off the mortgage. FML
Today, we recently found out I'm infertile, and I thought we were both devastated, until my partner posted a drunk video to Facebook, basically celebrating that we will never have, "crying, nappy-shitting, soul-sucking, bank account-draining little sods." FML
Today, I told my mom I was thinking of having a baby. She told me it was a huge mistake because children cost a fortune, make you miserable, and if she'd had her chance again she would have gotten her tubes tied when she was 18 and saved herself the grief. Gee, thanks mom. FML
Today, after four years of infertility, my wife and I found out our miracle pregnancy was going to be a boy; our first child. Twenty minutes later, we found out our child has a terminal genetic condition, and will die in the next 4 weeks. FML

It's nice to see so many people championing adoption but irl I know many people who "would adopt" and very few who actually consider doing it. Also for those saying "just adopt! derp" as though it were as simple as going to the market and picking one up, you should know it's a long, often expensive process and many end up nowhere. Some aren't qualified to adopt by agency standards (gay couples, single parents). Celebrities may have the way paved for them but for the average person, it can be just as emotionally and financially draining as IVF. We don't always get to have what we want, sad though it may be. OP, don't let this ruin your friendship. Bitterness is poor fuel. Congratulate your friend and focus on your next steps.

Hey, here's an idea: ADOPT. There are hundreds of thousands of children rotting in a shit foster care system, i'm sure one of them would be MORE than happy to have a home. People really need to stop popping out kids every 8seconds and start focusing on the ones that already exist.

I'm sorry :( that's actually what I fear the most, people who don't want kids bring able to have a baby but me not being able. And it truly is that expensive!

adopt or foster, there's enough kids without parents. it's selfish to ignore them and have your own.

I wouldnt go that far, it think its more selfish for parents to have a child they know they dont want only to try to palm it off on others. More thought is needed by them before we blame people for not choosing adoption over trying to have their own kids,

I kind of understand how you feel........I'm 26 years old and unable to have children either. I know I'll eventually try in vitro and if that doesn't work, I'll adopt every single time I open up a newspaper or watch the news and see that a child was abused...a child was killed by their parents...a child died of heat stroke because they were left in a hot car for hours, I feel like screaming. How are people able to have kids and treat them like crap...when I know I would be an amazing mom, and I can't? It doesn't seem fair sometimes.... but you know what, it's life...getting pregnant, although of course very emotional, is a function our bodies do like any other, and sometimes things don't work like they should...it has nothing to do with whether or not we'd be good mothers, we have to leave the emotion out of it to keep our sanity, but it's incredibly hard Try to be happy for your friend, she may be an amazing mom after all once the baby arrives! Good luck with your treatments! To all of those saying that in vitro is wrong when there are so many children to adopt....who are you to make such an important life decision for others? If we follow your logic, why do healthy people get pregnant in stead of adopting? In vitro is an option, and if a family feels it's what they want to do, why do you care?

Children are absolutely not guaranteed to be there for you until you die. Sometimes there's no you can have over children just turning out rotten. Sometimes no matter what you do, due to whatever circumstances your child will turn out to be a complete and utter dumbass. It's tragic, really.
