Today, my boyfriend told me that we wouldn't move in together as we had planned to do for a long time. His mother forbade it. He is 27. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, after months of planning, my boyfriend told me he's changed his mind and doesn’t want to move with me to where I got a job. Why? He doesn’t want to live that far away from his mother. FML
Today, I learned that my 29-year-old boyfriend won't stay the night at my house because he lives at home with his parents and doesn't want to have "the discussion" with his mom about me. FML
It's probably for the best
Today, my boyfriend couldn't go on a date with me because his mom said no. He's 23. FML
Bad sign
Today, my 24 year-old boyfriend said that he wanted to move out of our apartment, but also stay in a relationship. He's moving back in with his parents, over two hours away. FML.
Today, my boyfriend and I had a fight about his parents. We're both 23-year-old university students who aren't allowed in his bedroom unless the door is completely open. Nothing he says to his parents will change this. FML
Today, my boyfriend threw a fit because I "still" live with my mother at age 30. I bought her an apartment in my building and hired a live-in nurse because she is senile and permanently bedridden. FML
Today, my boyfriend of 8 years moved in with two other women. He's spent the past 2 years telling me he can't afford to move out of his parent's house. FML
Time to run
Today, while I was looking for an apartment for my boyfriend and myself, he asked me how would I feel about his mom moving in together with us. FML
Today, my 23 year old boyfriend of 2 years was forced to dump me, over the phone, by his mother. FML
Today, the guy I've been seeing for a few months told me he couldn't stay overnight because his mom would yell at him for not coming home. We're both 30 and I didn't know he still lived at home. FML

If he's still tethered like that to his mother at 27, he doesn't sound ready for a committed relationship.

he could be just from a traditional family. I didn't move in with my wife till we were married at 26 and she was never allowed to spend the night at my apartment

I'm wondering why she'd object. She might have a legitimate reason if she knows he's irresponsible with stuff around the house. You find out a lot living with someone that you may not be aware of. Had a former room mate that couldn't cook for himself (using recipes) and even some basic stuff he didn't know because his mom always did it for him. It might suck, but could save you in the long run.

Think about this, OP, if he won't stand up to his mother now it shows that she holds all the strings in your relationship. If she doesn't like you, it will get worse and not better. Imagine her dictating his life and meddling with everything from personal finances to your children. These are the things you have to consider in a relationship which can become bitter battlegrounds and the seeds of resentment. If you want more with this guy you need to accept that his mother is part of the package.

What if they are religious? Wouldn't that go against what they stand for?
