Today, my boyfriend asked me if we were going to become "that stupid couple that sings cheesy songs to each other." I just spent the past 3 months writing the perfect song that I was planning on singing to him tonight. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, my boyfriend wrote a song for me. As he was singing it to me I realized it was actually a breakup song. FML
Today, my boyfriend of two years, who is a fabulous guitarist and singer, told me he wrote me a song. I was so excited. Turns out it was a break up song. FML
Today, I wrote my girlfriend a song. She wrote me a 13-page letter on why we should break up. FML
RUDE!
Today, I sang a romantic song I wrote for my girlfriend. She laughed at my soprano. FML
Today, I wrote a poem for this guy I am falling for. Before telling him that I wrote it, he read it and then laughed at how "corny and stupid" it was because he would "never date someone who could come up with something that lame." The poem was about how vulnerable he makes me feel. FML
Today, for our anniversary, I sang my boyfriend a heartfelt, self-written song. The first thing he said when I finished was "Your fly is open." FML
Today, I wrote a song for my boyfriend on paper. The first thing he did was correct my grammar. FML
National bard
Today, my boyfriend asked me to write him a poem, as I am an avid writer. Happily, I agreed. After hours of working, I proudly presented it to him. He read it, laughed, and said, "No babe, I meant a real poem." Maybe I should rethink my career choice. FML
Hush
Today, my boyfriend was having a really bad day, so I decided to call him and try to calm him down. At one point, I thought it would be sweet to sing him a song since he claimed to love my voice. Before I could get half way through, he told me to shut up because I was getting on his nerves and just making things worse. FML
Noise annoys
Today, I told my boyfriend he is good at singing. Now he won't stop. FML

Sing it anyways, forget what he says. He might feel dumb at the end.

Maybe explain to him that you already spent 3 months writing the song for him, not knowing he wasn't into "cheesy songs", and that you'd like to sing it anyways since you worked so hard on it? Im sure he wont just not let you sing it...if so well then thats kind of a dick move so wake him up by singing it to him through a mic really loudly ;)

Did he overhear you practice?

He could have possibly found out about it and he's uncomfortable about it. Not the fact that you wrote him a song, but some people just get awkward when someone sings to them when they're the only two in a room or what have you. It kinda makes me uncomfortable, even though I'm extremely musically inclined. It might be his way of escaping a possibly awkward situation, I don't know. Either way, I think it's awesome that you did something like that for him! It reminds me of how LIGHTS wrote a song for her sister and her sister's husband for their wedding present. c:

28 That's what I was thinking! I get nervous when a guy sings to me. I don't know how to act and I start to blush really bad and fidget a lot, and I'd rather just avoid the whole situation completely. Singing along to songs in the car is one thing, but serenading someone is a whole different animal. If I found out a guy was going to sing to me, I'd probably try to avoid it too. Just more tactfully than this guy did.

Completely understandable. He definitely hit the nail on the head, but the way he did it was a bit unnecessary!

In other words he wants to be that couple.

Should have said, when he asked that question, I sure hope so! I agree with others: sing it anyway. But make sure he knows you think those "stupid couples" are romantic and sweet. Ask him if he thinks romance is stupid. I think if he thinks that, he is never really been in love.

Not everyone wants to be serenaded. Doesn't mean we don't like other romantic gestures or have never been in love. I'm very much in love with my fiancé (getting on for six years together now) but I would absolutely hate it if he sat me down and sang to me; I'd be extremely uncomfortable. We sing along to the radio and stuff together all the time, but a formal setting like that would just be painful for someone like me. Maybe OP's boyfriend is just trying to warn her about his discomfort with such a situation.

Don't take it to heart OP. It sounds as though he hadn't known about the song because I'm sure that he would never have made such a thoughtless comment if he had. Sing it to him anyway. I'm sure he'll appreciate the gesture

You can still sing it! Make out like it's a joke in response to what he said. He'll find it funny and possibly cute?
