Today, my 2-year-old daughter started showing signs of understanding the potty training concept. She announced to my mother-in-law that she needed to go potty, only to be flatly told, "No, you don't." So she crapped herself. Now it's going to take forever to train her. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Potty drama
Today, my two year-old is being potty trained. He got the gist of it and actually did #1 and #2 in the potty and after our little celebratory dance, I went to get him a cookie (which took me two seconds). I come back to see him covered in shit and pee because he tried to go empty the potty himself. FML
Today, in an attempt to potty train my 2-year-old, I sat her on the toilet and waited for several minutes. I finally gave up and lifted her off the toilet just in time for her to pee on my new shoes. FML
Show, don't tell
Today, I was desperate to teach my 2-year old to use her potty. I had to pee, and thought maybe she would learn by watching me use it. Everything was going well, until I realized that I had a long pee. So long that it overfilled her potty all over. FML
Well done sweetie
Today, my daughter watched a potty training video on Sesame Street. In the middle of the video, she got up and ran to her potty to practice. She then announced, "All done!", and proudly closed the lid to her potty. She then immediately stood on top of it and peed. FML
Toilet training
Today, I came down with food poisoning of some sort. After hours of scrambling to the toilet to vomit and empty my bowels, my three-year-old daughter got fed up and is now trying to potty-train me. FML
A little treat
Today, the 4 year-old I was babysitting came up to me all happy, saying she went to the bathroom like a "big girl." Knowing she was just potty trained, I asked if she'd remembered to flush. Looking at me confused, she said, "But it's in my room." FML
Today, while driving home, my 3-year-old daughter told me she had to poop. I told her that she would have to wait until we got home. When we got home, she pulled down her pants and shat on the floor, because, "I'm home now." FML
Today, I woke up to my 2-year-old daughter hitting me in the face. She had just pooped her nappy and put her hands down her pants to "feel it squish around." FML
Today, was the first day of potty training for my toddler. While watching a "How to Potty Train" video, I noticed my toddler was making a weird face on the side of the couch. I walked over to her, picked her up and a big pile of poop dropped. FML
Today, my 2-year-old son figured out that if he takes his pull-up off and DOESN'T go on the potty, he can pee all over things. FML

That was incredibly rude of your mother-in-law. She should be supporting and helping you in your potty training adventures! Kids need constant reenforcement in order to understand. Best of luck OP.

This might help, kids at that age don't want to have dirty papers/underwear. Especially if she knows what the potty is.

That's a shitty situation OP, good luck with the potty training.

I don't know why you got down voted, nice pun, even if it was crappy.

26, it's an overused and a very unoriginal pun.

The reason is because this site has been around for years, those that have been around for quite some time have seen the "oh, that's shitty" or something similar pun alot and becomes unfunny. So it's an unspoken rule to not use them or you'll get down voted. Hope this helps.

It got downvoted because on every single poo-related FML, without exception, somebody makes that joke and it would appear people are getting sick of it

I'm not sure if people get sick of it or if it's just tradition at this point.

It doesn't help when an adult that's supposed to help her won't listen to her.

How is this supposed to help a child if they need help doing things like opening the door.

I have a few kids. Would you like to walk around with a dirty diaper? Neither do kids.

??? But the kid wanted to use the toilet. The grandmother refused to take her. I don't understand what you're trying to argue.

With his experience, perhaps #2 is trying to suggest that there is still hope for the future. While the child was clearly mistreated by the terrible mother in law, OP should still hang in there. The kid doesn't want to wear a soiled underwear (reason more why the MILs conduct was horrid), but moving forward, definitely keep up your efforts, encouragement, and positive reinforcement. You will reach your goal! Speak to your MIL about her conduct, and keep her at a distance during this sensitive period, as she clearly isn't helpful, but please do not lose hope! You are doing some great work OP! Good luck! :)

From the sound of the post the kid doesn't mind that bit yet and is having trouble with the concept. In that situation an adult not listening will have an adverse affect.

I hope OP made the MIL change those shitty pants.

ya my grandma did the same thing with my little brother when we were younger... she would talk him into putting in diapers bc "he's still the baby" and would unpotty train him every chance she got.

That sounds like a shitty situation

Out. Now.

This is been so pathetically over used I don't know how you can say it without hanging your head in shame. NOW HANG YOUR HEAD IN SHAME!!!

MIL should now be the one wiping her ass. What a thing to let happen to a child.
SOILEDIT 51
Some mother in law you got there. Sorry, OP.

Ugh mother in laws, amIrite?! That was rude of her but just keep giving your child a lot of positive reinforcement for letting you know that she had to go. Good news is they pretty much crap every single day so they will have plenty of chances to try again. Good luck, op.

Oh I would explode. I'm still having trouble potty training my son, who turns 4 next month, because he only gets to work on it 4 1/2 days a week, at my house. His dad doesn't work with him on it. I know the struggle.
Talis99 26
Right. Because fear is great motivator. You'll only mess with her head. She'll end up having a breakdown when she has an innocent accident.
LadyNightowl 17
It's never a good idea to scare kids into using the potty, and using "a monster will eat you if" for anything is a terrible tactic. I'm guessing you don't have kids.
