Today, I witnessed a robbery as a teenager ran out of a Walgreens with stolen goods in his hands. The manager was running after him. Trying to be helpful, I pulled forward to block the thief from getting away. The cops showed up and arrested me for hitting a pedestrian. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Leg it
Today, someone tried to mug me. I panicked and ran. As they chased me with their knife out, I heard a slip and a shout behind me but kept running. Six blocks later I was spotted, arrested, and held for questioning by the police. The mugger fell, stabbed themselves, and told a cop that I did it. FML
Help!
Today, I went to the store, but after I'd selected my items, I saw that I'd forgotten my wallet. When I tried to explain to the cashier, he thought that I was trying to steal and called the cops. My roommate had to come to the store to save me. FML
Today, I got lost trying to find the hospital my sister was giving birth in. I stopped at a store to call my mom for directions. A cop pulled up beside me and knocked loudly on my window asking me to get out. The store had been robbed and I am now a suspect. FML
Today, I was accused of shoplifting, after the alarm started beeping as I walked into the store. FML
Drunk with power
Today, I was detained by a stubborn cop who swore he saw me sprinting away after shoplifting. I’m missing part of my right foot, and walk with a cane and a limp, I haven’t sprinted anyplace in 12 years. Not even showing him my foot convinced him. I was sat in his car over an hour. FML
Thanks, officer
Today, I was mugged. I saw a cop car in the aftermath and flagged it down. Unfortunately, when the cops stopped the mugger, he said he'd been running away because I tried to mug him. Apparently the fact that he was "well-dressed" and I wasn't means he was telling the truth. FML
Don't bother
Today, I was at the store when I saw that a cart in the checkout line next to me was starting to roll away and the owner hadn't noticed. I tried to help by reaching out to stop the cart from moving, but when the owner saw me with the cart, she began to hit me for trying to steal her purse. FML
Today, I stopped by the gun store to pick up a new concealed weapon for protection. As I was leaving the store, a man came up behind me, hit me with a crowbar, and stole my gun. FML
Smooth criminal
Today, I was walking down the street, when a little old lady bumped into me and fell over. I helped her up and she thanked me for being "such a nice young man". It was only an hour later as I was in line at the store that I realized she'd pickpocketed my wallet. FML
The Child Catcher
Today, I had to chase down and tackle a boy (around 11 or 12) at my workplace after I caught him snatching someone's wallet and trying to quickly sneak out with it. Now everyone thinks I have something against children, even after I returned the stranger's wallet and explained that the little brat is a thief. FML

29, How 'bout you just shut the **** up?

To the maninthemachine Also if he did hit the guy (as in hit hit not just had him run into his car) it still isn't an accident because OP purposefully drove in a way that endangered the well being of another person.

To 62- well said!
ManInTheMachine 20
Your logic is ridiculous, llama612: He blocked the thief with the intention of STOPPING him, not HITTING him. So if a cop intends take down a perp by shooting them in the leg, but the perp dies because he bleeds out, then the cop killed him on purpose? If an architect intends to take down a wall in a house for remodeling, but the entire house collapses, then the architect destroyed the house on purpose, right? You're a ******* idiot, so there is no further point in arguing with you.

Sorry but you deserved it. You don't have any right or reason to get involved in that manner. You are not a police officer and therefore are not entrusted with the safety of the public. I understand you were trying to be helpful but its your requirement to only witness not interact during the commission of a crime.

What kind of screwed up attitude is that? -Rights: the right to help a person being robed, aggressed, ect... I don't think the law states "You don't have the right to help someone in need" -Reasons: just being human and help someone. It has nothing to do if you are part of the police or not, it's just common sense! And who requires you to just stand by and do nothing?
organolithium_fml 9
Okay, I just read that you have no "duty to rescue" law, only good Samaritan laws. But still, nothing wrong with doing a good deed and help someone!
Supahnova 14
Well, by that logic, many more crimes would happen. OP made a potentially dangerous mistake, but this does not exempt everyone from ever helping another person in need. Police can't always respond in a timely manner, you know.

I can't believe you compared a teenager shoplifting from a Walgreens to child abduction. I'm sure the worst case scenario would be Walgreens having a cough syrup shortage for a week or two; it wasn't a life or death situation. People need to choose their battles wisely and OP did not.
ManInTheMachine 20
And again, I'm not saying OP should've done what he did, I'm saying it was unintentional. Still a bad move on his part, but it wasn't on purpose.

Yea and they don't sympathize with people that hit a pedestrian, their or not. What did he steal? ****** aspirin?
ManInTheMachine 20
I agree that he should be held responsible, but llama is saying "He hit him, so (whether or not it was intentional) he did it on purpose!" which makes absolutely no sense.
BobbieH 19
MsKati, you are 100% correct! Op is absolutely responsible. If the perp had gotten away, the car could have been blocking the manager, which would have made Op guilty of aiding during the commission of a crime. It is illegal to get involved. A citizen holds no right in the defense of others. The only exception is in a very few states, although Op is from one; Florida, that allows a CCW/CPL hold to discharge a firearm in the defense of someone else. But ONLY when a life is inimminent danger. The specifics are for rape, assault with a deadly weapon, intent to commit homicide. Carjackings are often excluded as an example of the limitations in the law. Maninthemachine- MsKati never states on purpose but responsible. In your examples, yes they would be legally responsible. The point is that no matter how much you think it's wrong, you cannot involve yourself or you are committing a crime and as such you should be prosecuted for it.

No actually it isn't my logic is fine. First off a cop is doing his job when he is in that situation but there is a whole bunch of stuff that goes into cop shootings so just gonna leave that one alone. If an architect did that he wouldn't be a very good architect but your trying to twist my words by putting them into totally unrelated situations. What I'm saying is that by intentional driving in a way that endangered those around him it isn't an accident. Cars kill people people know how dangerous they are OP can't claim ignorance on this he knew exactly what he was doing when he drove his car into a direct path of a teenager who was running so it is not an accident then when he hits the kid or the kid hits him because OP intentionally made that situation happen. If OP had just been driving along normally and suddenly this kid runs out in front of him and he hits him or the kid runs into OPs car then it's an accident it was unexpected and unintentional.
