Today, I was accused of shoplifting, after the alarm started beeping as I walked into the store. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, I was accused of shop-lifting by an old lady in a supermarket. Having proven myself innocent, I tried to storm off to show my displeasure at the situation. In my haste to make a dramatic exit, I tried to go out of the entrance and walked straight into the automatic door. FML
The cat's out of the bag
Today, I was shopping with my husband. At the self-checkout, one of the items I was buying for him as a gift didn’t register. As we were walking out, I get stopped and escorted to the loss prevention office, where I was accused of stealing. FML
J'accuse !
Today, I was shopping at a store from which I had previously bought a shirt. The clerk accused me of trying to steal my own shirt and called security. They examined it and argued with me for so long I was late to work. FML
Get back here
Today, I was in the dressing room of my favorite store. While looking in the mirror at a shirt I really like, the fire alarm went off. In a panic, I ran out of the store like everyone else. The sensor went off on my shirt and I was banned from the store for attempted theft. FML
Easy mistake
Today, I accidentally left the store with a bag full of groceries without paying. I realized this halfway to my car when an employee chased me down, thinking I was a thief. Turns out, I had spaced out and walked out during a fire alarm drill. FML
Shop til you drop
Today, after getting home from shopping, I noticed a security tag was still on one of the shirts I bought. I decided to take it back and ask them to remove the tag. They then accused me of trying to steal (even after I showed them the receipt) and kicked me out of the store. FML
Help!
Today, I went to the store, but after I'd selected my items, I saw that I'd forgotten my wallet. When I tried to explain to the cashier, he thought that I was trying to steal and called the cops. My roommate had to come to the store to save me. FML
Today, while bagging my groceries at a store, a lady came over to me, took a good look at the food I'd bought, picked out an item and put it in her bag. When I confronted her, she called security on me and told them I wanted to steal her stuff. I got thrown out and she walked away with a smirk. FML
Are you new?
Today, while walking around the local thrift store, I noticed an attractive guy watching me and following me through the aisles. As he followed me to my car I was sure I would get his number. He then asks me to bring my purse inside as I had been tagged as a shoplifter. I work at the store. FML
Shame! Shame! Shame!
Today, I was holding on to a shirt that I planned on buying, when an elderly man bumped into me. The shirt fell out of my hand, and slid just out the door. I went to the counter to explain what happened. Everyone accused me of trying to steal it anyway. FML

Most people just look around and keep walking if it happens while they're entering

How does this happen as one enters a store? Was anyone else exiting as you came in?

People seem to be getting dumber and dumber..

And quicker to accuse people if it seems fit... doesn't matter if it's right or wrong anymore in some people's eyes.

except it doesn't fit at all, someone needs to be fired

It happened to me once with a packet of blank CDs that I bought at another shop earlier. It didn't worry me as the alarms are only to get the staff's attention

And half of the time the staff ignores those alarms. Welcome to retail he**.

They also do that when they are stealing something.

@4 Sometimes the machines just screw up. Yesterday at school I saw a guy leaving the library. The anti-theft machines beeped, but the only books he had with him were the ones he bought at the bookstore (in a separate building). The same thing happened to another guy less than five minutes later.

Quite easily actually, lots of stores use "soft tags" in inconspicuous areas and the cashiers often will forget to run them over the demagnetizer. It's quite common.

I've had this happen to me twice. The first time was my phone that triggered it. My friend and I tossed my phone back and forth through the detectors, setting them off. The second time was when I had a pack of E-cig cartridges in my purse that had an anti-theft tag on it.

Do I want to know why you were doing that...?

I can personally say I've left the security tags on my accident when ringing people out, especially if they buy something like a really thick cardigan, it's hard to see or feel them. Luckily the alarms almost always go off. Sometimes it's tricky, other times the machines are just screwy.

If you order some designer purses online, they may have a security tag hidden deep in a pocket, it can set them off. It's happened to me before. Once a tag was sewn in the lining. That was fun.

Wait... Did they come up to you and accuse you? Or are you saying the beeping machine accused you? Did they call the cops on you? If so file for harassement/defamation of character to teach them they cant just accuse you because the machine beeped.

What do you mean, one of those? I'm a different person, by the way, to avoid misunderstanding.

Maybe the guy walking out as you walked in?

Just raise your hands and say I'm innocent.. Or just keep walking. I wouldn't sweat it.

I don't get how they accuse you of shoplifting when you haven't even had the time to get to the shit actually worth stealing.
