Today, I went to a conference for work. When I got there I sat beside a woman about my age. She immediately got up and moved to the opposite side of the room. We were the only two there. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Give me a break!!
Today, in an effort to avoid having the same break as my annoying coworker, I went a little earlier than I usually do. Guess who got moved to a position with an early break? She sat next to me. FML
Wrong target
Today, I was hitting on a girl who was getting ready to walk into the same class as me. We were waiting outside the room, so I told her that I'd heard the professor for the course was a total bitch. We walked into the room. I sat down at a desk. She stood behind the podium. FML
Today, as I caught the train home, a woman got on and sat on the only available seat next to me. We got talking and as the train approached the next station, she said that this was her stop and she had to go. She exited the train and I turn to see her enter the compartment behind me. FML
Today, after moving house, changing my number, my email, and beginning legal action to get away from a girl who was stalking me, I decided to go to the movies to relax. As soon as I got in my seat, that same girl walked into the nearly empty theatre. She sat next to me. FML
Move!
Today, I was at the cinema. There was a really tall woman in front of me and whenever I leaned to the right or left she would lean to the same side I do. Later, she started laughing. They guy next to her was telling her where I moved. FML
Today, in an effort to make new friends in my history class, I sat in the empty seat next to a friendly-looking guy. He got up, walked away, and sat down in a different seat. FML
You fool
Today, my wife and I both spent a weekend away separately with our close friends. However, we ran into each other, unplanned, at the airport. She was with her girls and I was with my girlfriend. FML
Today, my girlfriend and I went on a date. I went to the bathroom. When I came back, she was sitting at a different table flirting with a guy that looked twice as old as her. FML
Today, I went to a movie with this guy. He was late so the only seats available were the ones in the very front which he refused to sit in. As we were looking for two seats, he spotted one near the back and sat down, leaving me to sit by myself in the front. FML
Fun fun fun
Today, my mom dragged me along with her to a baby shower. I was the only guy there. FML

Why did you sit right beside her if you were the only two there in the first place? You probably creeped her the **** out.

Maybe it's just cause I'm British but personally I'd do the same. Why did you feel you had to sit right beside her? She probably just doesn't like strangers in her personal space. I highly doubt it was anything to do with you.

YDI If you walk into a room and there's only one other person there you don't sit in the seat right next to them unless you know them, period. You don't sit in the seat directly next to anyone who isn't a friend or acquaintance unless there are no seats available that aren't directly next to someone else. That's just basic manners. It's like the idiots who, in a deserted parking lot, park in the space RIGHT NEXT to the one you're in.

I think it's sad that a friendly gesture is now seen as "creepy" in our society. Perhaps she sat next to the other person to start a conversation or try to be friendly? It might not have been the "socially acceptable" thing to do, but why is it automatically creepy? This is the reason so many people in our country don't even know their neighbors or choose options that come with the least amount of human interaction. It's disappointing that it's become the "norm" in our society to be stand-offish and cold. I sincerely doubt the woman who posted this sat down next to the other woman, gave her the eye and then put her hand on her leg. Now that would have been creepy. Yeah, if it were me, I probably would have at least put one space between myself and the other person, but don't dismiss a person as a freak or a weirdo for the innocent act of sitting next to another person. I'm much more concerned about the number of people walking around who act like jerks and don't care about anyone around them. Those are the people you should be worried about.

I've learned that Americans don't like sitting next to someone unless they know them. No, you're not a loser, and no, this lady probably doesn't hate you. It's just a typical thing. And it's not that she's a jerk, either. I mean, she could be, but you don't know that.

That's a little creepy to sit like right next to someone... Then again it is a conference? But in that case not RIGHT behind them. More like beside them or near them but in their view, and them in yours...

It still is a free country isn't it? I mean I know its not really free any more but its a conference room, people sit by each other, maybe the sitter isn't comfortable sitting away from other people. So what about their comfort? I mean as long as everyone here is gonna make an ass outta u and me, might as well make every assumption, don't want any to be left out, right? And in case there are any slow people out in the audience, ass u me....

Its probably because you were breathing hard and heavy, and gave her horrible memories of her step-dad ;D ;D
