Today, I was officially diagnosed with OCD. My mother's reaction? "That's not possible, she's a fucking slob." FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, I was formally diagnosed with obsessive-compulsive tendencies. My mom saw this as an excuse to make me clean the whole house top to bottom, because "Hey, you love to clean." FML
Today, I asked my mother if we could test me for OCD, since so many people have suggested to me that I might have it. She smiles at me and says, "No, honey, you're just really really weird." FML
Today, my mom's obsession with cleanliness hit a new low when she bitched at me for having trash in my trash can. FML
Thanks Mom
Today, it was confirmed that I have ADHD and moderate OCD. My mom thinks I do it on purpose to seek attention. I'm shy, and I don't even like people. FML
Today, my obsessive-compulsive mother barred me from using the toilet she had just cleaned. She told me to wait until tomorrow. FML
Work work work work
Today, I had my first day off in six months. My mother immediately came down to my room and demanded that I clean the entire house. As I was cleaning, she said, "You don’t get to relax. Ever. Lazy ass." FML
Today, I found out my mother cleans the dishes with bathroom cleaning chemicals. She doesn't see anything wrong with this. FML
Today, I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. My mom's reaction was, I shit you not, to tell me to "walk it off". FML
Today, my mom read my diary. Then she frantically booked me an appointment with a psychiatrist. FML

Today, my OCD mother got mad because I wouldn't let her turn the fan over my head at a higher speed than low. She's got every other fan going at high speed but not aimed at herself, while I'm trying to work from home without the wind in my face for 8 hours. FML

Am I the only one wondering what kind of OCD you've got?

Your mom was sloppy with her response.

Wow supportive parenting there. She understands what OCD is right. It's an anxiety disorder more common than not, affecting a majority of the population. In varying degrees. It's not always about cleanliness and order it manifests in many different forms. Good luck OP and hopefully your mom apologizes in the future

This is why we desperately need more public education on mental illness and fewer TV shows and movies perpetuating stereotypes and stigma. I have "Pure O" OCD, which involves no compulsions, let alone cleaning compulsions.

And this is why mental health education is important. OCD does not equal clean freak.

Exactly. Thanks to pop culture and people that use terms without understanding them, too many people think that OCD is about cleanliness and order. No -- OCPD is about cleanliness and order. OCD has zero to do with these things.

I hope OCD was or can be explained by a professional to your mother, or even by you! OCD is largely misunderstood (mental health in general really) but it can be very serious, at least to the one who has it. Best of luck OP!
