Today, I was informed that I was let go from my job for not showing up for a week. A week I'd scheduled off, that management had approved. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Unionize now!
Today, after taking a much-needed mental health week off from work, I discovered I wasn’t on the schedule this week. Turns out, I was fired. Apparently, my absence made things “inconvenient” for my department, since they had to do double work due to my “selfish” PTO usage. FML
Today, I was told not to show up for work, after I showed up for work. FML
Unfair
Today, I was let go from my job for not being able to come into work early. FML
Today, I submitted a vacation request to my manager and it was approved. I came back from lunch and was informed that I have been let go. FML
Thanks, I hate it
Today, after I let my job know I needed time off for a friend's funeral a week ahead of time and they declined to approve it, telling me to call in sick, the day of the funeral arrived and I called in sick, only to come back to a write-up and threats of being fired for not getting it approved in advance. FML
Today, I was checking my schedule online and noticed that I wasn't scheduled for any shifts next week. Not thinking it was a big deal, I called HR to get it corrected, only to find out I was laid off and they "forgot" to tell me. FML
Today, while on vacation, I got fired for not working a shift I wasn't scheduled for. Even after texting my boss a copy of my vacation approval letter, she still fired me. FML
Today, my boss called me and asked why I haven't been showing up to work. I didn't show up because he fired me last week over the phone. Then he fired me again for not showing up to work. FML
Just perfect
Today, I finally told my boss that I need a week off to recharge; I presented dates, reasons, and felt brave. He nodded approvingly, then checked my calendar and asked, “Perfect, can you train the new hires that week?” I stared at my triumphant note then mourned my stolen week. Ugh. FML
You're fired!
Today, my employer fired me, less than a week before I could become permanent full-time staff. FML

Do you have it in writing? If not, there's not much you can do. If you do, go to HR and possibly a lawyer.

What Nabexis said. If you have a paper trail, and can prove that they authorized the time off ahead of time, they can't fire you. It's illegal.

At least we all have the opportunity to downvote your comment 3x. Since it sucked that badly!

As always, I get very confused and curious at what seems like a complete lack of workers' rights in the world. If you have an employment in Sweden, it's extremely hard to get fired unless there's a shortage of work and then there are strict rules to follow in the decision of who has to quit in a few months. In FML posters life tho, it seems like your boss can basically ask you to do anything and if you don't do it, you're fired on the spot.

Yes in most of states in the USA, all employment is at will and they don't need a reason to fire someone, they can for any reason as long as it's not discrimination.

On top of that they can still fire you for discriminatory reasons too, all they got to do is say they are getting rid of you for some other BS reason. Then good luck proving it was actually discrimination.

Contact HR. In fact, that might even be grounds for an Unlawful Termination suit.

Yup, I always filled out the time off request form, had my boss sign it and then make a xerox copy for myself before handing it in.

If you have texts/emails/forms regarding the vacation time and its approval, you have a very good wrongful termination case there. Sorry it happened.
