Today, I was babysitting a 5 year old boy. When I was on the phone with my mom, he called 911 and started to cry. When I got off the phone the police were at the door. It turns out that the "emergency" was that the VCR was not working. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Back to square one
Today, I was babysitting for my neighbors. Their 5 year-old had finally fallen asleep at 11 after two hours of stories and songs. No sooner had I tiptoed out of the room did I realize that my phone had dropped out of my pocket onto the bed. It was ringing. It was their mother checking in. FML
Today, I was babysitting. Everything was going well until the kid called 911 on me for making him eat his vegetables. FML
The Shining
Today, I was babysitting my 4 year-old twin brothers yet again. I began to get desperate when they took my phone and would start crying every time I tried to take it back. My mother found me thirty minutes later, huddled in a corner, crying. I'm 27 years-old. FML
Demon child
Today, I was babysitting my nephew. He was acting up, so instead of spanking him, I put him in the corner for timeout. He screamed and thrashed and kicked the walls so hard my neighbors called the police. My sister wasn’t answering her phone, and I had to explain why a 7-year-old was acting like that. FML
Today, I was babysitting my friend's 12-year-old son while his dad was having an emergency procedure at the hospital. I walked into the den to see if he wanted to go out to dinner, only to find him watching Pornhub on my iPad. FML
What's your emergency?
Today, I found out that because I'm a cop, my 5-year-old son thinks the only way he can contact me is by calling 911. FML
Today, I was babysitting. Being kind, I went to grab their mail, while their 4 year old ate lunch. He locked me out, wrecked the house, and let me in right when he saw their car two hours later. I didn't get paid. I paid them. FML
Today, I had to babysit two kids. It all went well until one of them duct taped a knife to a toy machine gun, lit the barbecue on fire, and ran around like a wild banshee screaming obscenities. The other one got scared and climbed onto the roof of the house. FML
Today, I was babysitting my co-worker's son. He was eating Jell-o and spilled it on his top, so I pulled off his PJ's, and went in his room to grab a new pair. I heard a thunk and ran to find him out cold on the floor. His parents walked in on me trying to wake up their naked 3 year-old. FML
911 is a joke
Today, I came home from work. I was really tired and told my son that I would make him dinner later. He called the cops saying, "Mommy won't feed me." FML

If she was ignoring the boy and talking on the phone then that's a problem. But if she was just making a quick call and he didn't come to bother her, then there is no big deal. I bet all you chastising her for talking on the phone have never baby-sat a kid a day in your life.

This happened to my cousin. He was babysitting my younger cousin (his brother) who was like, 4 or 5 at the time, and they got in a fight over taking his toy away. He ended up chasing the little brother around the house, who ran into the kitchen, called 911 and yelled 'my brother's being mean to me!' and hung up. Cops came over, it was embarrassing for all. The kid got taught what a *real* emergency was that night.

I have and you shouldn't be on the phone if you're in charge of someone else's child. The only reason you should even have your phone is in case of an emergency. You're seriously going to say a 5 year old should know better than the grown person who's supposed to be supervising him? Really?

That's what you get for using a VCR. What are you, some kind of hobo?

Okay, so how do you all know it wasn't the VCR in his room? And then he went and used the phone in either the hall or his mother's room. I know I've called my mother because I couldn't remember if I'd turned off my straightening iron (I had, just couldn't remember doing it). Five is plenty old enough to play alone. To me, this is a case of the parent not teaching the kid the right and wrong time to call 911.

Oh, and I have a VCR and so did my boss at my last baby-sitting job.

I don't think it's you fault (depending on the scenario). Though, I don't think your life is F'ed either. If anything this is a funny story about a 5 year old kid that hopefully knows now what a ''real'' emergency is. People just OVER exaggerate both with their criticisms and also with reasons as to why their life is F'ed.

you should always be watching a small child even if you're on the phone. and make sure they don't use the phone especially!
