Today, I turned eighteen. Thinking I was going to get a big present from my parents on this special day, I eagerly unwrapped my present. They got me a bag of M and M's. Last year I got flannel bed sheets. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, I turned 18. My parents got me a pineapple and a pair of socks. I'm allergic to pineapple, and the socks are too small. FML
Today, I had dinner with my family in celebration of my 19th Birthday. I've been hinting that I need a new laptop for months now and I was sure my family had bought me one. I have got a pair of slipper socks. FML
Friends
Today, it's my 18th birthday. Last month was my best friend's 18th birthday. She spent the night with me, and the next morning, my mom and brother gathered in my room and sang "Happy Birthday" as they handed her pancakes with a candle on top. Today, I was woken up by screams to take the trash out. FML
Happy Birthday
Today, my parents gave me my birthday present. Two weeks ago, I'd ordered an Xbox online. Three days ago, it came to my house, and my parents thought they could save money by putting wrapping paper on it, and giving it to me for my birthday. That's all they got me. FML
Today, for my 18th birthday my mum gave me a black lace thong. I'm a guy. FML
Today, was my graduation party. My birthday was about a week ago so my parents combined the presents. I thought it would be something big so I hinted for a new TV. I got a snuggie. FML
Today, it was my 18th birthday. I got one thing: a fancy electric toothbrush from my little sister. I would say I'm happy to have something rather than nothing, except, for as long as the toothbrush works, there will be a Hannah Montana concert going on in my mouth. FML
Today, I was woken up by my family surrounding me with breakfast in bed and "Sweet 16" balloons. My birthday is in 3 months, and I'll be 17. FML
Today, I received the 'special' present my mother had sent me for my 21st birthday. I opened the box and saw that my mother had picked out, accessorized and shipped to me, in college, a doll. FML
Today, I turned 18. My parents remembered that I loved German chocolate cake, so I awoke to a hot, fudge-filled chocolate cake with a slice cut out just for me. I've been lactose-intolerant for 8 years. As I cried, my mom handed me tissues, while eating the "Happy" part of my cake. FML

Okay, come on. I bet some of her friends got cars and computers and iPods for their birthdays. I understand she shouldn't feel 'entitled' to anything, but can no one understand the disappointment? She isn't homeless or living in poverty so her parents can probably afford to spend well.... over three dollars on a gift for her eighteenth birthday. Yeah, it's not the end of the world, but you know what? Half you are posting these messages criticizing the OP from your goddamn iPhones that mommy and daddy bought you. I don't care if you're 'happy getting nothing' (I don't believe it for the majority of you, though) for your birthdays, everyone has a right to be a little irked when zero thought and effort goes into a gift for their coming of age birthday. My family isn't rich but if we're struggling with funds we still put in some effort for gifts. I work a little extra in order to spend some money on gifts for my family, why shouldn't parents do the same for their kids? And don't give me the recession bullshit, because if that had been the issue in the OP's case I'm sure she would have understood or they would have at least explained it to her. No gift would have been better than a thoughtless one. A note saying, 'honey, we're sorry we can't afford much this year, etc etc. ' would have probably changed things in the OP's mind. Stop being hypocrites.

Ah **** it. MY comment, take 3. This reminds me of that ungrateful bitch who whined about her boyfriend giving her a bucket of Twizzlers for their "one-year dating anniversary". I bet you anything this OP is her sister.

My interest is piqued. Does anyone have the link to this Twizzler drama?

There is a search feature, y'know. How many FMLs can there POSSIBLY be about Twizzlers, right?
Sappheyes 0
I searched "twizzler", and it gave me over 7,000 posts.

I just did the search and got over 7000 results. I then searched for "twizzler" on the page... and no hits XD It's probably just a glitch.

Maybe they forgot or are going to surprise you? My dad gave my brother expired cupons to mcdonalds as a joke but after five min of my brother trying to pretend to be thankful, my dad gave him his real present lol

YDI for being a whiny brat.

you know, you should be happy that you even got a gift. think about it, a lot of people from different parts of the world are also celebrating their 18th birthday today and some of them aren't even eating, some of them are homeless and are outside in the freezing cold, some of them don't even have parents to give them presents. you have M&Ms to eat whenever you want to and you have flannel bed sheets to use because you have a bed!

preach preach preach. **** M&M's Smarties are the way forward!
peroxideprincess 0
dude, M&Ms are way better than Smarties...and besides, i wasn't preaching i was just telling her that she's more fortunate than some people.

Please tell me they were at least those special M&M's on which you can print something special? And by the way; Happy birthday!

Look at it this way. At least you will always remember what you got for your birthday. Or at least until you eat your present.

What the hell is your problem, OP? "Oh noes! My parents gave me something, but I'm a selfish bitch who wants them to spend more money on something more expensive! Never mind that they've given me food and shelter for the last umpteen years!" Get over yourself.
kaleid0scopeEyes 0
yeah we get it, your life sucks and your parents hate/beat/ignore you so you call everyone else selfish, go write a depressing shitty poem and post it on your shitty Myspace. but don't listen to me, i'm just a "conformist"
peroxideprincess 0
not really...even if my parents gave me nothing for my birthday i'd still be thankful for having them and me actually making it through another year... (TBH i actually didn't get anything for my 17th birthday...a simple greeting would be enough for me.)

Once my mom refused to go to the store to buy me some candy on my birthday....least they got you some. I'd be happy with m&m's in this recession
