Today, I turned eighteen. Thinking I was going to get a big present from my parents on this special day, I eagerly unwrapped my present. They got me a bag of M and M's. Last year I got flannel bed sheets. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, I turned 18. My parents got me a pineapple and a pair of socks. I'm allergic to pineapple, and the socks are too small. FML
Today, I had dinner with my family in celebration of my 19th Birthday. I've been hinting that I need a new laptop for months now and I was sure my family had bought me one. I have got a pair of slipper socks. FML
Friends
Today, it's my 18th birthday. Last month was my best friend's 18th birthday. She spent the night with me, and the next morning, my mom and brother gathered in my room and sang "Happy Birthday" as they handed her pancakes with a candle on top. Today, I was woken up by screams to take the trash out. FML
Happy Birthday
Today, my parents gave me my birthday present. Two weeks ago, I'd ordered an Xbox online. Three days ago, it came to my house, and my parents thought they could save money by putting wrapping paper on it, and giving it to me for my birthday. That's all they got me. FML
Today, for my 18th birthday my mum gave me a black lace thong. I'm a guy. FML
Today, was my graduation party. My birthday was about a week ago so my parents combined the presents. I thought it would be something big so I hinted for a new TV. I got a snuggie. FML
Today, it was my 18th birthday. I got one thing: a fancy electric toothbrush from my little sister. I would say I'm happy to have something rather than nothing, except, for as long as the toothbrush works, there will be a Hannah Montana concert going on in my mouth. FML
Today, I was woken up by my family surrounding me with breakfast in bed and "Sweet 16" balloons. My birthday is in 3 months, and I'll be 17. FML
Today, I received the 'special' present my mother had sent me for my 21st birthday. I opened the box and saw that my mother had picked out, accessorized and shipped to me, in college, a doll. FML
Today, I turned 18. My parents remembered that I loved German chocolate cake, so I awoke to a hot, fudge-filled chocolate cake with a slice cut out just for me. I've been lactose-intolerant for 8 years. As I cried, my mom handed me tissues, while eating the "Happy" part of my cake. FML

Okay, come on. I bet some of her friends got cars and computers and iPods for their birthdays. I understand she shouldn't feel 'entitled' to anything, but can no one understand the disappointment? She isn't homeless or living in poverty so her parents can probably afford to spend well.... over three dollars on a gift for her eighteenth birthday. Yeah, it's not the end of the world, but you know what? Half you are posting these messages criticizing the OP from your goddamn iPhones that mommy and daddy bought you. I don't care if you're 'happy getting nothing' (I don't believe it for the majority of you, though) for your birthdays, everyone has a right to be a little irked when zero thought and effort goes into a gift for their coming of age birthday. My family isn't rich but if we're struggling with funds we still put in some effort for gifts. I work a little extra in order to spend some money on gifts for my family, why shouldn't parents do the same for their kids? And don't give me the recession bullshit, because if that had been the issue in the OP's case I'm sure she would have understood or they would have at least explained it to her. No gift would have been better than a thoughtless one. A note saying, 'honey, we're sorry we can't afford much this year, etc etc. ' would have probably changed things in the OP's mind. Stop being hypocrites.

Guys, Seriously, let's just blame it all on Obama... He is the reason for all the FML's.

I haven't received a birthday gift from my parents in 16 years. You should be happy you got something.

I don't see why so many are saying welcome to adulthood and not to expect presents.. I mean really you don't think adults don't get presents for birthdays and Christmas? What dimension are you living in. I don't know how it is in the OP's family, but presents no matter what age are the norm for bdays and holidays...

Waaa waaa waaa spoiled brat.. You got SOMETHING. At least they remembered and bothered caring enough to get you something. Let me guess, you probably wanted something expensive, right? I don't see how not getting expensive stuff for your birthday is a FML at all.

God damn brat. My parents FORGOT my 19th birthday. They've also made it quite clear that 18+, I get nothing, and very little for Christmas, because I'm an adult now. What're YOU gonna do? Oh, and to the person posting about, just because her friends are spoiled as shit, it's okay for her to baw about what she doesn't have rather than reflect on what she does? She knows they don't get her lots of expensive goodies and treasures, and probably for good reason; to teach her to be grateful, which she apparently LACKS, or maybe they can't afford it, or maybe they think practically instead and thought this was a great actual gift? So why would she expect something OMG TTLY FANTASTIC on her 18th?

being a bit disappointed about a birthday gift = normal expecting something big and when you don't get it, considering that to be fml moment = teenage girl from California
