Today, I told my parents I don't really like children and probably won't have any in the future. They sat me down and gave me a lecture on how people who hate kids are heartless. FML

Today, my parents disowned me because I told them I don’t want kids. FML
Today, I was advised to never have kids because they ruin your life, ruin your body, cost you money, stress you out, and the end result is they become an adult you don’t even really like or would choose to spend time with if you weren’t related. It was both my parents who gave me this advice. FML
Today, my mother-in-law asked me when my fiancé and I were going to start having children. When I told her we weren't planning on having any, she went on a tirade about how selfish and cold I am for denying her precious grandchildren. Now she hates me. FML
Today, my parents disowned me because I threw out my wife and son after I found out that the kid wasn't mine. According to them, I'm a "heartless asshole." FML
Today, I told my mom that having watched my sister ruin her life having kids who grew into brats with criminal records before their teens, I refused to ruin my life the same way and will be childless. I then turned to leave and they were in the doorway, my sister and her two brats. I got slapped. FML
Today, my husband ranted about how children are awful, and parents who claim they love their kids are complete liars, and if everyone admitted that we hated our kids and resented them for existing, there’d be a lot more happy childless couples. We don’t even have kids for him to hate this much. WTF? FML
Today, as part of my job, I had to watch a few 5 year-olds while their parents were busy with my manager. It only confirmed my choice to never have children, and yet my mother still insists I should have one, because once they exist and I love them, I’ll see how silly my choice to not have them is. FML
Today, I reluctantly went to a family get together. My nosy aunt decided to try to lecture me on why I should spank my kids. That’s great coming from a woman who was a teen mom, had kids with 3 different guys, and now has grown kids that hate her guts. Yeah I truly need lessons on how to be a mom. FML
Today, I found the courage to tell my parents about my boyfriend. They simply reacted by lecturing me about how much he'll ruin my life, and how much they don't like him. They haven't met him yet. FML
Today, my husband and I recently decided not to have kids, because neither of us like children. Learning this, my dad wrote me out of his will and my mother swore on the Bible in church that she’s never going to speak to me again until I obey God's word and start multiplying. FML

Which is worse? Realizing you don't like children and having them anyway to please someone and end up resenting the kid(s) or to just not have kids and disappoint your parents? I'm pretty sure it's the first one.

So I decided at a pretty early age that I do not want kids and I still remember my mother telling me in high school that apparently "one day you will meet a man that you want to keep so badly that you combine your DNA with his to tie him to you". At 26, I still don't want kids.

Honestly, her reasoning for why I should have kids always centered around how other people would feel; she still hasn't accepted that (even if I could afford a kid, which I can't), I have never wanted to be a mother to human children. Dogs/puppies, yes. Humans? No.

For years I said I didn't want kids. Honestly,I wasn't even sure I could have children. Now almost 8 years later,I am a mother to 3. Greatest thing in my life! That's a choice you and your partner need to decide,not your parents. And you aren't evil or heartless or anything of the sort. Some people know children aren't for them.

My brother and his wife decided, before they got married 36 years ago, that they would not have children. They've always had 2 or 3 well-behaved and pampered dogs in their house. The dogs (and the occasional cat) have always graced the covers of all their Christmas cards. Our mother, who spent 38 years as a foster parent and cared for nearly 300 children in that time, was constantly telling them that "kids make better pets". It never swayed their decision, but they did step up in spending time with our younger siblings (there were 12 of us). If you don't want kids, you shouldn't have them. Children need to be wanted.
