Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, my parents disowned me because I threw out my wife and son after I found out that the kid wasn't mine. According to them, I'm a "heartless asshole." FML
Today, I told my parents I don't really like children and probably won't have any in the future. They sat me down and gave me a lecture on how people who hate kids are heartless. FML
Today, my parents found out that I separately convinced them not to get back together, and now they're not speaking to me. FML
Today, I announced my third pregnancy to my parents, thinking they’d be excited. Instead, they gave me 30 days to find a new place, saying they refuse to raise “any more of your children.” FML
Today, my daughter told me she wanted to divorce me. FML
Today, my husband and I recently decided not to have kids, because neither of us like children. Learning this, my dad wrote me out of his will and my mother swore on the Bible in church that she’s never going to speak to me again until I obey God's word and start multiplying. FML
Today, my parents have made it very clear to me that if I fail one more assignment, they’re disowning me. I got a zero on a paper that I poured my heart and soul into, and in the notes, the teacher wrote, “I don’t even need to read this paper to know that it is bad.” FML
Today, I came out to my parents. They laughed in my face. FML
Today, I was disowned in my family because of the pandemic, after I refused to quit my job and live at my parents house, with them supporting my family, so now no one in my family has acknowledged my existence since August 2020. FML
Today, I announced my pregnancy to my parents, expecting them to be thrilled. Instead, they were furious. Apparently, being unmarried and on disability means I can't raise a baby. FML

There's a certain type of parent that had kids not because they wanted kids but because That's What They Should Do. No reason not to have kids is good enough for them because they suffered for years, so so should you. Nevermind that being raised by someone who patently didn't want them can leave kids with lifelong psychological trauma. I think your way of handling things is way healthier.

well then sounds like they don't have a kid anymore either! cut off all contact and they'll fold first. even if they don't you don't want someone to control your life anyway

Sounds about right. Grandchildren are the reward for the sacrifice and grief of raising children. Your refusal to reproduce makes their whole project futile. When you screw people over, you get screwed over.

I hope your kidding and don't actually believe that. that's not why you have kids.

Having kids just because you want something from them in the future is selfish and ****** up. Kids are not a project. They are not dolls or accessories. They are humans who will grow up to be their own people with their own lives. They don’t owe you shit.

OP unless you are still living with your parents or they are fantasticly rich, being disowned has a lot less impact than you might imagine. It’s pretty rare for there to be much left of the “family estate” by the time both parents die… Having children is a very personal choice, and it’s often one than changes with time and circumstance. It’s ridiculous that your parents think they could dictate if you have children or not… I would say that this could have been avoided by not talking about it in the first place. While full disclosure sounds like a good idea in principle, in practice it’s not always a good idea to tell people everything you are thinking if you know they disagree strongly. I’m not saying OP was wrong in what they said, just that they cannot change their idiot parents.

Not to mention that it's doubtful that whatever you'd inherit would equal the cost of raising even one child.

Evidently they feel the same way. Must be hereditary.
